The future of translation. This is Microsoft Translator's own page, and they've decided to machine translate it (and a bunch of linked pages) to Finnish. The result is something to behold. Nearly all compound words are separated, it's full of strange idioms, faulty inflections and broken grammar. Some links in the footer: Download center -> "Center of Espoo" (city in FI); Manage cookies -> "Uber-cookies"; ??? -> "Isn't".

It’s sometimes *so* frustrating #English speakers cannot understand that a) one English word can acquire many distinct translations, or b) several differing English words can be translated with one and the same word.

Today’s pet peeve: “#shortcut”. In @Vivaldi, it stands not only for ’a special key combination’ but also ‘an icon on the speed dial tab’. In Finnish these require different translations; however, no hints are provided by the developers as to which one is meant. #localization #l10n

Windows Server 2022 Locale Hell, ultra summarized. The standard Group Policy "Regional Options" UI is fundamentally broken. It uses a confusing Red/Green F5/F6 activation system that defaults to ignore, and even when applied it fails to update the actual Get-Culture or system clock formats. Registry requirements vary by country so one locale required significantly more explicit key overrides than another to achieve the same result due to differing internal Windows defaults. The only working method required bypassing standard GPO GUIs entirely in favor of raw registry preferences with around 30 settings total. Victory? Nope, it feels more like surviving four hours of stoning or caning.
