I hate it when instructors provide the textbook as the only real material to the course, then give questions that aren't anything like in the textbook. In this case, we're expected to search all of youtube to find proper lecture videos when the instructor's own channel doesn't give any worked examples to his own course's problems.

How the heck am I supposed to know how to do something I've never seen before? This isn't gradeschool, this is calculus, there are a million ways to solve each problem, but only one or two are the accepted way!

How do I start?

I can do hobbys fine. But I cannot sit down and do tasks blindly for learning without having a plan for learning the University exams. And, I cannot create a plan without having a plan.

I feel stuck and this state repeats. My motivation is drained. I do compare myself too often with other excellent students and I really don't know how to shut off thinking badly about everything.

Maybe I should force myself with positive mind growing mantras? Or... I should start doing a task... But its not fun, because then I unexpectedly know nothing, which mentally hurts, and then I need to create effort to research and understand, and then I want to store that knowledge before using the knowledge on the task...

Using well-chosen public sources, i let NotebookLM and Kimi K2.5 generate a presentation on a subject, amazing quality and very few errors. Good inspiration for the real presentation i will make myself. AI is not only creating "slop", we have to really start more research about how we incorporate AI in our work-processes in a responsible way, how we don't become "dumber", maintain skills, learning and human creativity 🤔

Some songs speak to your soul.

And some lyrics reach out and grab you by the throat.

This one did.

It hits you right in the pre-chorus of Lauren Daigle's "You Say." She asks the question: "Am I more than just the sum of every high and every low?"

The song came on while I was out for one of my first outdoor walks since my November spinal injury, and it hit the moment perfectly.

My answer to her question is: Yes, you are more—but you are also the sum.

You must accept the lows as a critical part of the process rather than pretending they don't exist. Otherwise, you'll never have the opportunity to learn from them.

In my career as a futurist, I tell clients that innovation isn't a straight line "up and to the right." It’s a messy squiggly line of breakthroughs and failures. You cannot have the "High" of a new invention without the "Low" of the failed prototype.

If you delete the failure, you delete the lesson.

My incident has informed me. It has taught me that the "lows"—the pain, the confinement, the loss of the ski season, the frustration,was not lost time. It was valuable insight.

It was the construction site where my resilience was being reinforced.

Rebar for life, if you think about it!

When life throws you a curveball, you have to live through and feel the emotions, rather than trying to hide from them.

Don't edit out the lows. Own them. They are the only reason the highs mean anything at all.
