For #MusicMonday, I offer a story.
Years ago, when my bff was getting married, I struggled to come up with a wedding gift that would suit both her and her guy. It had to be #music, because of course. Through a long and complex process I no longer recall, I decided on a set of #BillieHoliday's collected works on #Verve, on #vinyl.
I remember wrapping them in dark blue tissue paper, and because my friend would be wearing ecru because she found it far more elegant than white, I used white lace ribbon that I'd dyed in tea.
I was mostly a #PostPunk kid back then, but #LadyDay had taken me over, and for a long while after - 3 months? a year? - I could barely listen to anything else. My listening eventually widened again, but I kept her with me.
Thus, on this Monday evening many years later, I find myself listening to this gorgeous new #VerveRecords Acoustic Sounds Series pressing of “Songs for Distingué Lovers."
