Simple design, alternating circles, but I'm quite pleased with how this Lego print comes out.

A printed card that has alternating brown and orange circles. At random, some of the circles have holes in. To the right, the Lego baseplate used to do the printing, it has lots of circles on on a checkerboard. Around the edge you can see bits of my desk, with more Lego pieces on, and parts of a pencil and a Pilot V5 pen.

3 postcard sized lego prints:
The first shows a green slug and an orange slug. They are leaning towards each other forming a loose circle shape, looking a bit like the ying yang symbol.
The second is picturing a snail with a shell printed in a muted pink tone.
The third shows a snail peaking out of it's rather long drawn shell. It's based on the shell of Lissachatina fulica.

After inking, place the mask on top, now you're ready to print!

Mask on top of printing plate and the motif is inked.
I use scrap paper for this, copy paper works just fine.

I was asked how I avoid printing unwanted marks from the studs when I print with lego. After watching a few linocut tutorials I saw some people working with masks for small parts in another color. And I applied this Idea to my lego prints. Here are a few photos, there are further descriptions in the alt text.

I print a first layer and cut out everything I want to print in that pass. In this case it's only one of the slugs, the other got a different color. It's good to cut out a tight shape, but you don't want to touch the bricks forming the motif. But you can make corrections at a later stage too.

The mask should now cover most of the plate you do NOT want to print. I recommend taping the mask at one border to your desk.
(The wooden rulers visible are my register for the position of the lego plate. I'm still looking for better solutions)

Flap flap. That way you can easily remove the mask or cover the plate without much fuzz. Flap it back.

Now ink the parts you want to have printed WITHOUT the mask. You don't want to have any ink on the top side of your mask at all. If you have color on it you need to make a new mask, since it won't dry fast enough.

I never tried to sell my art before, but since I started printing it seems like a reasonable next step! 😂
