The Grind Is a Scam and I’m Done Buying

Daily writing promptDo you need a break? From what?View all responses Everyone keeps asking if I need a break. From what, exactly? From being stretched thin by a job that sucked the life out of every square inch of my patience? From pretending bad management and broken systems were somehow my personal growth journey? No. I don’t need a break. I needed an exit. So I quit Domino’s Pizza. Cue the shocked faces. Cue the fake concern. Cue the “are you sure?” like I just announced I’m […]

The Work I Did After I Stopped Working

I quit Domino’s two days ago. Two. Days. And in that microscopic slice of time, I’ve done more actual work at home than I did in months of clocking in, clocking out, and pretending any of it mattered. That should bother me. It doesn’t. It explains everything. For years, I was exhausted but accomplished nothing. That’s the magic trick of modern work. Keep people tired enough they stop asking questions. Keep them busy enough they don’t notice they’re spinning in place. Domino’s […]

Ten Years Was Enough

I did something today that ten years ago would have sounded irresponsible, dramatic, or flat-out impossible. I quit Domino’s Pizza. Ten years. A full decade of ovens, schedules, skeleton crews, and being expected to care more than anyone else while getting paid like I didn’t. This wasn’t some impulsive, storm-out, flip-the-table moment. This was exhaustion making a decision for me because my brain and body finally filed a joint complaint. Two jobs. Seventy-plus hours a week. Every […]

#Science confirms what we all suspected: Four-day weeks rule
As long as you get paid like a 5-day gig
The research, led by Boston College associate professor of sociology Wen Fan and economics professor Juliet Schor, also found that changes to #working patterns led to better #jobsatisfaction and fewer #sleep problems. The research found that switching to a four-day #workweek led to an actual reduction in average working hours of around five hours per week.

Don't chase job titles, chase job satisfaction. You'll be amazed at the difference it makes. 🤩

That's it. New work-workstation configured, file servers connected, remote access (via VDI, and firewalled to hell and back) set up, everything survives a (remote) reboot...

There will be fiddling, lots of fiddling - but this is basically it: the functionality that will allow me to do my daily work on a decent piece of hardware running Linux, with minimal exposure to M$ Windows.

AI and the Extended Workday: More Work, Less Life
devdiscourse.com/article/techn

* #AI exposure is leading to longer workdays and less leisure time for workers, rather than reducing workloads as expected
* AI is complementing human labor rather than replacing it, which paradoxically results in extended work hours
* Productivity gains from AI are often captured by firms and consumers rather than being shared with workers through shorter hours or improved work-life balance
* AI-powered employee surveillance and #monitoring has contributed to an "always-on" work culture, blurring the boundaries between work and personal life
* While AI-exposed workers earn higher #wages, they experience lower #JobSatisfaction due to increased workloads and diminished work-life balance

* Effects are particularly pronounced in contexts where AI significantly enhances marginal productivity and monitoring efficiency, and is amplified in competitive labor and product markets where workers have limited bargaining power
* Findings question the expectation that technological advancements alleviate human labor burdens, revealing instead a paradox where such progress compromises work-life balance
