@kurtus51 Der ist normalerweise ein meist geradliniges Starkwindband mit 200–400 km/h (Spitzen teilweise weit über 500 km/h), das Polarluft von gemäßigter Luft trennt.
Die derzeitige Windgeschwindigkeit beträgt teilweise nur noch 100- 250 km/h. Dadurch mäandert er, bekommt diese „Wellen“ und Kaltluftblasen brechen nach Süden aus.

@kurtus51 Die aktuelle Kältewelle kommt vom gestörten Polarwirbel (Jetstream). Die rapide erwärmte Arktis verringert den Temperaturkontrast zur gemäßigten Zone, so dass der Jetstream schwächer wird und die eisige Polarluft nach Süden ausbrechen kann.

If it feels like you’re at North Pole, it’s because you kind of are. Swirling high above Arctic is very cold air known as the #polarvortex. This is encircled, and typically trapped, by a strong wind pattern called a #jetstream, which is at a lower level in atmosphere. That separates cold air in Arctic from warmer air to south. Research suggests the jet stream has been weakening of late, making it wobblier.

What is clear to #meteorologists is that the Pacific #heatwave may be a significant player in influencing late fall and winter #weather patterns across large parts of the #NorthernHemisphere.

Tree-ring data sheds light on past and present summer climate extremes

Scientists at the University of Arizona used historical tree-ring data to study a key driver for widespread, extreme summer weather events: locked jet stream wave patterns that are often preceded by winter La Niña conditions in the Pacific.
