Overcoming Fear with Faith in Godโ€™s Promises

360 words, 2 minutes read time.

Scripture:
โ€œFear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.โ€ โ€” Isaiah 41:10 (ESV)

Devotional:
Fear is something we all experience. Whether itโ€™s fear of the future, fear of failure, or fear of the unknown, it has a way of creeping into our hearts and stealing our peace. But as followers of Christ, we are not called to live in fearโ€”we are called to live by faith.

Throughout Scripture, God repeatedly tells His people, โ€œDo not fear.โ€ But He doesnโ€™t just tell us not to be afraidโ€”He gives us a reason why. He promises His presence, His strength, and His help. When fear grips our hearts, we must remember that we are never alone. The same God who parted the Red Sea, shut the mouths of lions, and walked on water is the One who holds us in His hands.

Faith doesnโ€™t mean we wonโ€™t feel afraid, but it means we trust God more than our fears. It means believing that His promises are greater than our anxieties. When fear whispers lies, we need to combat it with truth: God is with me. He will never leave me. He will uphold me.

Reflection:

  • What fear are you currently facing?
  • How can you lean on Godโ€™s promises in the midst of your fear?
  • Take a moment to pray and surrender your fears to God, trusting in His faithfulness.

Prayer:
Lord, I confess that fear sometimes overwhelms me. But today, I choose to trust You. Thank You for Your promises that remind me I am never alone. Strengthen my faith, and help me to rest in the truth that You are with me, upholding me every step of the way. In Jesusโ€™ name, Amen.

George Price Hays, Presbyterian minister and college president, talks of white flight. People brought up in inner city churches get rich, flee to suburbs, then gripe at appeals to support their mother church. But itโ€™s self-preservation.

Anything like this happen today? Finger pointing at inner city churches in the denomination about mismanagement, doctrines too nice to the poor, etc.?

How can you support inner city churches?

"The rich churches will die out if we abandon these missions. Money seldom stays in the same family in this country more than three generations. As soon as a poor family is converted and joins the Presbyterian Church, they cease squandering their money on vice. They become thrifty and industrious, and start on that road up to wealth on which they meet coming downward the godless, spendthrift children of past generations. City missions for city churches are not a mere matter of benevolence; they are means of self-preservation as well."
