I fixed my issue. This is incredibly dumb. Ubuntu's Apparmor restricted the file extensions ghostscript was able to read. And, lo and behold, both XML and ICC (Color profiles) were not in that list.

This MUST be a bug, now where to report it to?

I learned a thing or two about postscript and ghostscript on the way. Not sure I needed that but here we are.

I'll turn this into a quick blog post.

This crazy document will use #LaTeX for most of it, but #heirloom #doctools for the diagrams. Why? Because I already have a library for #pic and a #Makefile, and I am not afraid to use them. #GraphicsMagick seems to handle converting #PostScript to EPS better than #GhostScript in my situation?! 😕

Back on social media again (touching grass was nice) ... I usually do prepress on macOS, but when I'm on Linux I end up using #Inkscape (Scribus UX is not the best).

So I decided to make a simple GUI over Ghostscript 👻 . It will create prepress-ready PDF/X from any PDF. Note! If you want total control over CMYK/spot colors use Scribus, but if your demands are simple (RGB=>CMYK) it might work for you...

When you've had enough of automating every little thing and just want to get stuff done and end up manually generating a bunch of (very slow to generate) PDF plots, then concatenate all of them with #ghostScript, then extract the text with #pdf2txt, use a regex in Python to find some numbers and dates in the plot's legend, to finally write them into a csv file.
