First, our article on reconstructing prehistoric land cover in the Humberhead Levels is now out in Vegetation History and #Archaeobotany.
We applied the Multiple Scenario Approach to produce spatially-informed quantitative reconstructions across four #prehistoric periods, working through the complexities of #wetland-rich 'blue-green' #landscapes where #freshwater and #marine systems intersect.

The best thing I've discovered on the internet this week is Joseph Ricketts' channel where he snorkels and finds interesting creatures. Here's a taste, where he snorkels a forest creek in Alabama, in mid-winter, and still finds all sorts of interesting things. That includes tiny freshwater sponges with symbiotic algae. Plus, Joseph makes his own music for his videos, in this case played on his parents' piano.

I just spent three nights camping at #BirdLife Australia's #Gluepot Reserve in the #mallee of #SouthAustralia.
Tenperatures were reaching 37/38 C, and it's very dry there. The reserve has a small dam, but no other open water. The #MurrayRiver is about 40 km to the south.
But the #insects that appeared at night were primarily #freshwater species - lots of #CaddisFlies (#Trichoptera), #Chironomidae and #BackSwimmers (#Notonectidae).
This video shows the insects attracted to a #LepiLED UV light. If these mostly originated down at the river, the insect #biomass streaming up across this region (wind-blown?) is absolutely staggering.
There were also LOTS of #microbats everywhere, and the stars were incredible.
