I'm trying to get an early start logging the #FFWN check-ins for this week. So far, we are not a superstitous group, but there are a few gems in there that made me laugh!

The web page was updated with last week's check-ins: w0rmt.net/ffwn/

@bud_t I just checked in using VHF Packet.

I tried the TH-D75, but apparently I needed a tad more oomph tonight for the digipeater to hear me, so I switched to the IC-9100.

The VHF packet nodes I've used in the past did not respond tonight, so I found another one N3DWB-10 (using digis CMLBK, PINGV) that works for me. Nice!

The Winlink RMS map is a really handy tool to find nodes that may be within reach.

Someone on the IC-9100 groups.io list asked about using packet with this radio which prompted me to see if that's still working for me. I fired up Winlink Express to retrieve the #FFWN reply over the WA3WLH-10 node using the CMLBK digi, but got no response. I then tried W3AVP-10 node using two digis (CMLBK, PINEGV) and that worked and got my reply (🙏 @bud_t !). It's good to have options in case the local internet infrastructure goes kerflooey. 😄

@bud_t I just checked in, this time using my lil' IC-705 from the go-bag using the 40m N3MEL-11 Ardop node. It's a great exercise to make sure my kit is still complete and can still send an email if my local internet infrastructure would be unavailable for whatever reason.

I finally got around to getting a digirig. WIll now have to figure out how the heck to use it. There's an ax.25 Winlink RMS around 5 miles from me. Would be nice to use a mode besides APRS to check in to #FFWN one of these days.
