An average #dev team might cost €70k a month. It's a lot easier to convince teams that spending €1.25m on a big bang rewrite is a bad idea, than complaining that 18 months is too long to spend on such an endeavour.

Indeed I think being completely transparent about costs, P&L and runway radically change people's relationship with their work. But beware, some people think they want this level of visibility and then quit, saying "I just want to write code".

Блядь, как же мне тяжело в местном чатике Meshtastic общаться с представителями секты "Meshtastic без MQTT".

Вот сегодня мне, например, затирают что то, что нода ретранслирует пакет, который получила из MQTT раньше чем по радиоканалу ретранслирует его сразу, не дожидаясь пока его же копию получит по радио - это плохо.

Я сижу и просто не вывожу понять чем руководствуются эти люди.

Это, получается, надо создавать искусственные задержки и лишний раз засирать память и так ограниченного девайса ради того чтобы на маршруте следования пакета ни в коем случае не поставился флажок передачи через MQTT?

Оно того правда стоит?

А если пакет по радио не дошёл? Сколько нужно ждать копии сидя с пакетом полученным из MQTT в руках?

A question for more experienced devs: is the rise of CONTRIBUTING.md organic, or is it becoming more popular as a sort of proto-AGENTS.md that allows projects to have some plausible deniability regarding their use of or tolerance for vibecoding tools?

It feels like I almost never saw a CONTRIBUTING.md before a few months ago, but now it’s everywhere, and I’m curious.

The 40 days of Lent are typically associated with the days Jesus spent fasting in the desert, resisting the temptation of Satan. It has become a religious tradition in Christian religions to also fast from Ash Wednesday to Easter.

I think it's unfair to the Devil to compare him to AI, as, as the story goes, he gave us free will.

However, to keep in tune with the story, starting this Ash Wednesday (18th Feb, coincidentally my 30th birthday), I will keep a 40 day AI Lent. No AI help, no Claude Code, Copilot, Google AI search.

Meanwhile, I will track the following:

- My satisfaction with software engineering (which has been slumping with AI)
- Mental fatigue/cognitive load (daily journal)
- Learning depth vs breadth (concept understanding tests)
-Number of PRs merged
- Time to complete defined features
- Confidence in released features

If your interactive program requires network data, please, I beg of you, if you have any humanity at all left in you, do your usability testing on the lowest reasonable global common denominator in this day and age: A 2Mbps packet radio connection *with* other people on the same band.

Desktop *and* mobile. Even if you're not on a cellphone in Syria, you might just be on wifi in a crowded apartment building.

I switched to PRO plan on my z.ai coding subscription to try out faster #glm5. So my first comment, it is much slower than 4.7, but overall all z.ai infrastructure today is kind of underperforming - including web interface.

Let me try it more and I will share some more comments.
