"Palace of Gold" was #LeonRosselson's response to the #Aberfan disaster. 59 years ago today, 116 children and 28 adults were killed a spoil heap collapsed at 9.15am, engulfing Pantglas Junior School and a row of houses.
The #AberfanDisaster happened because #NationalCoalBoard safety guidelines had been ignored and warnings dismissed. Rosselson's finest song lays bare the #classPolitics of disdain for the safety of #workingClass children.
Poverty kills. Poverty starves. Poverty freezes. Poverty destroys.
Poverty is not something to be tolerated. Starvation (even marginally) is not something to be tolerated. The fact that some are freezing in their own homes is not something to be tolerated. The fact that resource inequality can cause death and worse is not something to be tolerated.
Time poverty was treated like the monster it is. And time we looked at addressing the root causes (like uncontrolled capitalism) instead of just pretending that whilst bankers bonuses remain uncapped. Whilst water executives can pump suage into our precious environment. Whilst the depth of your bank account's contents can get you out of even the worst of trouble which would send you and I straight to jail) that the current system is sustainable. ,

I've seen this claim. Is it true? Certainly the right seems to parade working class supporters as some sort of vindication. The left doesn't do this with middle class socialists.

This photo sums up so well how afraid those in power are of a single 26-year-old from their own demographic. That show of force isn't there to protect him or to keep him from getting away. It's a staged media event to remind you they will not be messed with and you better stay in your place. (Yeah, I know how that sounds but it's become too obvious to ignore.)
