The better half felt like going for a local drive.

We went to #Cherokee & followed long, twisting, unsignposted tracks & ended up coming home via Riddells Creek.

It’s very nice & cool up in the ranges.

The signpost at Barrington Road that points to Cherokee. It was one of the last signs we saw on our trek. Behind the sign is bushland.

Signposts were around but almost all had their signs gone.

The further into our drive the trees got higher and higher. Lots of tall trees and the view is looking up at them.

One dirt track we followed with trees on either side.

We normally have tomatoes through to May/June.

Plus I have my domes if I need to protect them. 🤗

#Cherokee tomatoes are pretty tough plants. The tomatoes themselves can split, but they produce so many & I usually pick them early.

100 kg of potting mix has been unloaded.

I’ll pop some pain meds & wait for them to kick in before potting my #Cherokee #tomato seedlings.

I have emptied a very large pot (90 litres) that once had some of my #JerusalemArtichokes in it.

My #Cherokee #seedlings can move to there now - once I buy a few more bags of potting mix.

The problem now is - what to do with the totally root bound plug of potting mix that was in it?

I’ll need to empty some of my larger pots so these #Heirloom #Cherokee #tomatoes can have somewhere to start their crazy fast growth.

I’m even thinking of eventually growing them in hay bales.

The current #bushfires will see the price of hay & feed go through the roof though, so it’ll be some time in the future. #gardening

The Cherokee tomatoes just keep on going on in their tiny tub.

Just played #WinterRabbit. Technically we lost at the start of the fourth round when no one put out a task of a necessary color, but we played an alternate timeline with that color available and made it to winter with enough supplies for the village. Victory went to Opossum (consolation for not finding a wife). The game is both cooperative and competitive, an interesting combo.

The game includes rules in English and #Cherokee plus a bibliography of references.

Today in Labor History December 29, 1835: The U.S signed the Treaty of New Echota with a minority Cherokee faction. The treaty gave all the Cherokee lands east of the Mississippi River to the U.S. However, the treaty was never approved by the Cherokee National Council nor signed by Principal Chief John Ross. Nevertheless, it was ratified in March 1836 and became the legal basis for the forcible removal known as the Trail of Tears, which killed 4000-6000 indigenous men, women and children.
