Erfahrungsbericht nach einer Woche (mal wieder) #LinuxDesktop.

• ✅ Distro: Von #Mint wechselte ich nach #CachyOS. Der Installer von Mint mit OS- und Flatpak-Paketen ist cool. Außer die Flatpak-Sandbox stört die gewollte Funktion (wie #LibreWolf mit #KeePassXC-Plugin, welches dann nicht selbst auf KeePassXC zugreifen kann..) Und nachdem ich eh auf KDE wechseln wollte (nächster Punkt), warum nicht auch das OS mit?
• ✅ Desktop-Environment: #KDE #Plasma ist bei großen Bildschirmen mit Skalierung gut. (#Cinnamon kann das auch, aber eher geschummelt. Und das Schummeln hat mir viele Spiele verwirrt.)
• ✅ Email: Die #KDE Groupware Sammlung aus Kontact, KMail, KOrganizer, Kleopatra, KAddressBook find ich ganz gut und hat alles was ich brauch (#CalDav, #CardDav, IMAP, #GnuPG). Einen #OpenPGP-Schlüssel auf #SmartCard habe ich mir auch wieder eingerichtet.
• ✅ Emojis für Statuszeichen ( ✅ ⚠️ ❌ ❔ ) funktionieren etwas anders. Unter Wayland können die nur in die Zwischenablage gespeichert werden, aber nicht direkt von einem Programm in ein anderes eingefügt werden; oder ich habe das noch nicht gefunden.
• ✅ Spiele: #Steam und #Proton funktionieren super. Nativ habe ich #Hytale und #ProjectZomboid getestet. Minecraft (Java-Edition) lief auch früher schon super.
• ✅ StreamDeck: Dies wird nun über #Companion (Bitfocus) angesteuert. Das ist etwas Komplexer und größer als StreamDeckUI, und kann über Farbänderungen Feedback anzeigen (Welchen Lautsprecher verwende ich gerade, bin ich Stummgeschaltet) und zusätzlich durch Plugins erweitert werden (wie für OBS-Studio, Discord, ... und viel Audio-Video-Hardware 😅).
• ⚠️ CaptureCard Für meine HD60S gibt es keine Treiber und wird es vermutlich nie geben. Das Interesse in der Community ist klein, und neuere Geräte können zumeist über UVC (USB Video Class) angesteuert werden und brauchen keine Spezialtreiber.
• ❔ VR möchte ich mir noch anschauen. Die Hardware dazu habe ich theoretisch ja.
• ❔ Office: Typische Bürosoftware (Tabellen, Texte) verwende ich privat nicht. Da kann ich nichts zu sagen; außer #LaTeX (#TexLaTeX) mit #TexStudio, und das lief früher schon super.

Gibt's sonst noch Fragen oder Befürchtungen?

Great, an amazing chain of events and maybe unfortunate UI design in #DAVx5 resulted in me deleting our shared #CardDAV addressbook - server side from an ancient #baikal instance, no backups (no mercy) of course. My rescue attemps of copying contacts around in #Thunderbird (why does 'export' make an effing lossy CSV without avatar!?) just made it worse, 50% of contacts now left.

It's finally time to #selfhost #radicale with #git and #borgbackup failsafes on my #nixos #homelab...

Wenn ich ein neues Mobiltelefon einrichte, ist eine der ersten Aufgaben die Synchronisation der Kontakte und Termine zwischen dem Telefon und meiner #Nextcloud, welche diese per #CardDAV bzw. #CalDAV zur Verfügung stellt. Also versuche ich mich an dieser Aufgabe auf meinem #Ubuntutouch Gerät.

In den Einstellungen, finde ich einen Punkt Konten, Wen ich hier ein Konto hinzufüge, wird mit tatsächlich auch NextCloud als Option angeboten.

@smiee Android fehlt schlicht die Funktionalität von #CalDAV & #CardDAV, die für den Kalender Sync und Zugriff auf den Kalenderspeicher notwendig sind! IOS hat das mit eingebaut.

Update zu Baikal: Offensichtlich gar nicht so einfach. Per Docker installieren geht einfach https://hub.docker.com/r/ckulka/baikal Auch Kalender funktionieren prima. Aber #CardDAV mit #macOS scheint seine Macken zu haben, was das Synchronisieren und Gruppen angeht. Habe es leider dran gegeben für heute, aber der nächste #did kommt ja bald ;) Oder hat jemand Tipps, welchen #selfhosting Service man besser nutzen kann, wenn man #Apple Contacts App unter macOS weiter nutzen will?

Solange #Android Standards wie #caldav und #carddav nicht nativ unterstützt, kann ich dieses OS nicht ernst nehmen. 😡

Special experience: Adding my #CardDAV account to #Iris (mail/contacts app) and literally see thousands of contacts being synced within seconds. On a single-core, single-threaded machine having 1,3 Ghz, no CPU heat involved, while it would blow up fans and take quite a while more on a Linux machine having 4/8 cores and a ten years newer CPU.

Analyse de Thunderbird : la solution de com' souveraine ? 🛡️

On l'oublie souvent, mais Thunderbird reste une alternative solide, #OpenSource et financée par les dons. J'ai regardé ce qu'il a dans le ventre.

C'est devenu un vrai collecticiel (mail, agenda, tâches) qui, enfin, gère le chiffrement #OpenPGP et la synchro #CalDAV / #CardDAV nativement (depuis les v78 & v102). Un must-have pour se coupler à un #Nextcloud ou autre serveur perso.

Surtout, leur philosophie est claire : pas de flicage, pas d'IA entraînée sur nos données.

Hints:
- put just the URL without https:// (apple can’t parse that, prolly has it 2 times then 😂)

- always new account and put directly full dav url (domain.com/remote.php/dav/principals/users/username/), try to avoid Apple finding settings

- also that will prevent the sub menue of hell will not appear if things work in first try.

- I had some stupid trailing spaces issues due to copy paste

- classics like things like rebooting, check card dav connection on other devices and adding test cal entries might have helped 🥳✨

The #iOS #caldav #carddav account settings menue is like a lottery. 🎉🥳 Every few years I remember how much #pain it was to get it working with #nextcloud normal dav links… and I can’t really tell why it is working now 😂
