Some #Books for our time. One is to help you when things are hard and the other is how communist come together after various disasters. "Read this when things fall apart" and "A paradise built in Hell

Walk through the snowy woods with me and discover a great read! Often cited as the coziest read of all time, WINTER SOLSTICE is an uplifting journey into community life. This novel was published just before the internet changed our world forever. Escape to a Scottish coastal village with a bunch of good people who will linger on with you after the book is closed.

I've watched another dozen or so #BookTube videos to find what people on #YouTube think about the death of mass-market #paperbacks, with ReaderLink, the last major US distributor who carried MMPBs, having stopped doing so at the end of 2025.¹

One thing I noticed with these booktubers, who ranged from roughly twenty to forty, was that "trade paperback" was not a term they used. They called the larger paperbacks "the usual type" or "regular paperbacks" or "softcovers", but not one of the under-forty set said "trade paperback".

[1] Yes, I know "mass-market" paperbacks technically referred to how they were distributed, like magazines. When this month's magazines come out, the publishers don't want last month's magazines to be sold at a discount to compete with them, so they mandate that old issues be destroyed. Ditto MMPBs. But most people, when not explicitly talking about distribution, just use "mass-market" to refer to size.

#TodayILearned that mass-market paperbacks are nearly dead. In fact, they've been dying almost since I began reading, having peaked at 49% of the book market in 1970, and being down to 3% in 2024, with ReaderLink having stopped distributing mass-market paperback books at the end of 2025.

I even looked at some #BookTube videos, and the young hosts referred to trade paperbacks as "traditional" books, and "the usual type" of book, and finding MMPBs odd and old-fashioned. #TIL

January Stich & Bitch livestream one hour from now on Rachel's channel! We'll be chatting books, crafts, media, and more. I'll probably still be wearing pajamas because it's just that kind of weekend.

Have some #YouTube #BookTube hosts wanting me on their channels as a guest. Where can I find some really great public domain cat or cookie images to use in place of my video? #Picture #PublicDomain
