Every year #bluemonday comes back in newspapers and every year we pretend it’s mental health awareness instead of what it is: marketing sadness for profit. Labeling a day as the most depressing amplifies misery, pushes people to doomscroll and impulse purchase holidays or items. That’s not care, that’s capitalism. If we actually cared about #mentalhealth , invest in vibrant public spaces, community events, more places to go in winter, and real support not viral misery days.
