If you're making slides, figures, or training material: remember that the #NIH has a pretty impressive catalog of scientific #illustrations mostly #CCO or #CCBY licenced.

BioRender have hidden the help pages that explain their terms behind a login wall, so I in turn can’t help anyone who does use it comply with what they’re asked to do. Even the one in their FAQ page is no longer publicly accessible. A reminder that alternatives like bioart (NIH, most of which is public domain) exist. #BioRender #ScienceFigures #AmEditing

Many UMCG employees use #BioRender: biorender.com
You can use it to create biomedical illustrations.

But beware: this is a commercial service. The #copyright of images made with BioRender rests with BioRender and not with you or the UMCG!

#BioRender has updated their Terms of Service

Good updates, but like WTF?? how did it take 7 years to get there. Who ever consider the terms of service prior to this as acceptable.

Just makes me so infuriated that some people had to put up with this. My suggestion, stick with the FOSS alternatives, let’s keep our tools as open as our research should be.

What’s New (effective immediately):

Simplified Open Access Publishing: You can now publish your figures in Open Access journals without needing to contact us. Just generate a Publication License in the BioRender app and use the provided citation in your article. This change gives you greater control over your figures and the ability to track their usage!
Clearer Figure Ownership: You’ve always owned the figures you create with BioRender, and now we’ve clarified this further with plain-language explanations in our terms. Your work is yours, and we want to make sure you feel confident about that.
Update on Author Listing Restrictions: If you’re on a Team or Lab plan and above, you no longer need to be listed as the first or co-first author in publications that feature your BioRender figures. Simply follow our updated citation guidelines, and you're good to go!
Plain English Commentary: We’ve added easy-to-understand explanations to all our terms to help you navigate them with ease.
