If you are in the DMV area, there is a full featured animated film made in Cameroon being shown this weekend as part of an animated film fest. I have a conflict and can't attend, but it looks interesting.

We just watched the first film at #MastodonMovieClub and this was the beautiful The Burial Of Kojo, and enchanting and visually exciting masterpiece set in Ghana, by the Ghanaian filmmaker Blitz. I look forward to seeing more from this director, especially the new film he is doing, a musical version of The Color Purple.

I'm a couple of days late on this but if you are into African film, the Film Forum in NYC is doing a two week retrospective on the works of the father of African cinema: Ousmane Sembène. They are shining light on the way he highlights the strength and intelligence, and power of African women, Sept 8 -21.

@eneh @Oktopus @giantspecks

yes, the #WorldCinema fund has a specific definition - but the term is still used as opposed to the mainstream (english) #film industry

however, you are also right, that the term #InternationalFilm makes often more sense - or even the more narrow groupings #EuropeanFilm (I gave a seminar about this topic in NY 20 years ago) and also #AsianCinema or #AfricanFilm

@RickiTarr

there is a variety of wonderful #films from #Africa - many slow paced, but very original & strong, including:

“Guelwaar” by the grand master Ousmane Sembene (actually, all of his movies are good)

“Hyènes” by Djibril Diop Mambéty

& definitely #Kirikou by Michel Ocelot

@nadinmai @film @art_film … love #WorldCinema, e.g. some #AfricanFilm classics from #Sembène or #Mambéty; #EuropeanFilm (e.g.: #Almodovar, #Truffaut …) so, yes : 🙋🏻‍♂️

#NAFF #diaspora #AfricanFilm #BlackMastodon #BlackFediverse #BlackTwitter Sunday took in THE BLUE CAFTAN. Fascinating sad and lyrical film about a tailor, his wife and their new apprentice.
That was followed by FAR FROM THE NILE, a group of musicians from all 11 of the countries touching the Nile, go on tour to show audiences that collaboration, like what they are doing, can help solve the water crisis. They are looking for festivals or places that would like to see the film.
More later! 5/5
