Morning Folks. This morning, I dive down a bit of a guilty pleasure rabbit hole as I talk about the YouTube channels that were important to me in 2025. I watch a lot of YouTube, or more specifically, I have videos playing in the background while I do other things. These channels are ones that I rarely miss.

It is finally time for me to talk about the #Games that were important to me as part of my #2025InReview series. I am pretty certain, though, that my list looks nothing like most of the best games lists, but these were games and game events that were important to me personally.

I already posted two #YearInMusic posts (my #2025InReview stats from #spotify and #listenbrainz ) using my #pixelfed account (as #mastodon only supports four images per post and I had more images to share - so if you are interested in those just visit the website of that account - otherwise your mastodon site (or app) won't show all images :/ ).

Just now I unexpectedly found another #music stat for last year, from #bandcamp - as usually I recognize: I should use bandcamp more often :D But yeah, another #yearinreview post, with regards to music.

Enjoy :)
bandcamp.com/2025/pygospa#your

Stats from Bandcamp stating that I:
- bought "dutch monky(s) : dutch monkey(s)" as my first purchase in 2026
- spent $224,13 USD supporting artists on bandcamp
- added 9 new items to my collection
- supported the artist Get Your Genki and the label Metropolis Records the most in 2025
- supported 4 artists and labels
- spent the most in August (6 times)
- haven't created any playlist in 2025
- got four Compact Discs making it the most chosen format in 2025

Morning Folks! This morning, I am continuing my #2025InReview series, this time talking about the #movies that impacted me for some reason. I also do something a bit experimental, where I recorded a really quick one-shot, unedited narration track after finishing with the post.

Let me know if that is something you dig.

For those that don't like math, this house was built in 1850!

This amazing home featured a fresh 2020s renovation, tons of space, and an upstairs balcony with tremendous view of the creek winding through acres of land.

All just a few minutes from downtown Centerville!

Good Morning, folks... even though I have already posted a bunch today. This morning on the blog, I am continuing my #2025InReview series, and this time I am talking about the #television and #anime series that I liked and disliked enough to talk about last year.

This can be seen as a follow up to yesterday's post where I shared my Spotify Wrapped. As someone who is a fan of statistics, I soon missed Last.fm, which I quit some years a go, for a couple of reasons, with the most important one being they had two data breaches, which they tried to hide, and only admitted, once the passwords where available in databases on the darknet. Thanks, last.fm! Oh, and thanks again!

Someone who doesn't care the slightest bit about your data but wants to collect it all, is someone you shouldn't support. But whom am I telling this on the #fediverse?

The cool thing: Once I started missing it, a couple of year ago, I started looking for an alternative and found one in #listenbrainz - it's basically the same as last.fm, but it's community driven, open source, and your data belongs to you (you can donwload everything in JSON format, if you want to).

Plus, it is liked to #musicbrainz and uses the DB that many applications already use for tagging their music (open source and commercial alike!), and that is also community driven.

The great thing about listenbrainz, though: You can scrobbel from most open source applications you might use; so for me CDs and .opus files are automatically scrobbled. Plus, I have a clever player that also plays from a couple of online sources which also get scrobbled in turn: YouTube, BandCamp, SoundCloud. And there is support for Spotify as well. And last but not least: You can even manually scrobble, which I use for my Vinyl listens (whenever I don't forget :-) ).

As you can see the image generation is not always the best, but it's actually a website, that you can share, like this: https://listenbrainz.org/user/pygospa/year-in-music/2025/

The cool thing are the interactive parts, like the world map, where you can click the countries, etc. And if you missed my last years, just scroll back to those years.

I am not the biggest fan of #Spotify (never was) due to many reasons. But one thing I never can get enough of are statistics, and I really like the way they do the yearly wrap-up, which I always shared on social media, and I won't stop today, so here it is :)

Bear in mind though, that I am a collector of physical media - most of my music consumption happens on CD (which I rip to #opus [much supperior to #mp3]) on my PC, or on #Vinyl; however for spontaneous on-the-go listens, for listening to music I don't (yet) own, or to explore new music, I still don't know any better service.

I found it interesting that spotify thinks that I have listened to 238 different music genres which is why it has dificulties figuring out my taste. I know that I have a broad taste and that I am unconventional. But I could hardly list more than 20 genres, tbh.

Having #LinkinPark back in my top lists is no surprise to me - I took a brake from them after Chester died, and only returned to listenint to them with #EmilyArmstrong joining them, but both, the new-ish direction as well as the new voice are absolutely perfect and especially #GoodThingsGo is one of my absolute favorite songs that speaks to me on so many levels. I was surprised about #9pm by #ATB and #DonnieDarko from #LetsEatGrandma, though. I would have put the later on no. 4, and #LoveGoesOnAndOn on no. 2.

Albums are no surprise at all; Both, #Wardruna and #Danheim were new discoveries, and especially Danheim was harder to get on Vinyl so there were a lot of Spotify plays on those albums. And after seeing the series "Wu-Tang: An American Saga", I rediscovered my love for them. I only owned that initial album (that I really loved) on MP3 as a kid, and I still didn't get around buying it (I probably should), so that explains all the listens :)

So how about you, anyone else likes to share their statistics? Or did you already?

And btw.: #HappyNewYear #HappyNewYear2026

2025 年终总结 blog.douchi.space/2025-in-revi

The new series of Lego blind boxed minifigures that just dropped includes a guy dressed in a frog suit. I'm sure this was set a long time ago with no political intent. But I also assume his name is "Portland." I also assume he has that expression because some goon just shot pepper spray up his ass-flap. I just got this one. I will make him a protest sign when I get home.

Sacrificial offering of 2025 to the new year

2026-01-01

I haven't written about the books I read in December on my blog yet, but since it's a new year, I thought I'd list my fiction books of 2025 before I get too far into the excitement of a whole new reading year.

I'm going to list five books in English and three books in Japanese in the order that I read them in each language. They are not ordered preference. In theory, books that I read later in the year should be more likely to make these lists because the memories are fresher, but actually for both languages, there are books from pretty early in the year, which kind of impresses me.

Interestingly, there are also books that I can look at my reviews and know that I loved them immediately after finishing, but that all I remember about them is that I liked them a lot. Those are books that I would recommend and potentially read again someday, but clearly they didn't resonate enough to be top reads for the year. The books in these lists are the ones that still echo, that are still tangible to me. Loving the experience isn't enough. These books changed me, and that's something interesting to think about, but maybe for a different post, so on to the lists!

English:
- A Song for Wild Cats by Caitlin Galway
- Valid by Chris Bergeron (tr. Natalia Hero)
- Mad Sisters of Esi by Tashan Mehta
- Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt
- Local Heavens by K.M. Fajardo

Japanese:
罪の余白 by 芦沢央
東京ハイダウェイ by 古内一絵
ピリオド by 乃南アサ

"Yet the biggest disappointment of 2025 may well have been not what Trump did but how so many let it happen. Trump has always been a mirror for other people’s souls, an X-ray revealing America’s dysfunction. If this was a test, there were more failing grades than we could have imagined."

"Empowering the world’s richest man to cut off funding for the world’s poorest children. Welcoming Vladimir Putin on a red carpet at an American Air Force base. Razing the East Wing of the White House, without warning, on an October morning. Alienating pretty much the entirety of Canada.

Your list might be different from mine. There is so much from which to choose. And that is the point."
