My wish for these "lost" stuff found in archives news stories is that it centers the archivists. You know who figured out that there was some never-developed Warhol-made porn in that box labeled "raw stock"? Archivist Katie Trainor, and Warhol Museum director of film/video Greg Pierce, that's who.

1994 - 2008 internet was a magnificent place. Minus the obvious cesspools, the internet was a wonderful portable library of arts, music, literature, and a bunch of kids who wanted to explore the world.
It wasnβt until we put Obama in office using 2008 Twitter that a certain demographic of hegemonic racists decided to use their blood wealth to ruin everything positive about this space, out of pure spite and jealousy. Itβs been obvious and disgusting to watch.
βKnowing what must be done does away with fear.β
Periodic reminder that Rosa Parks was part of a community that trained for resistance and civil disobedience. Parks was an organizer and activist. She did not simply βdecide to sit down one day.β
These moments are not about us as individuals. These moments are about forming and supporting community that includes us. Together, we are less afraid.
Happy Birthday, Rosa Parks
From a recent post looking for PhD theses databases across Europe, I got lots of boosts (thanks) but only returns from very few European countries. So I wonder : how many active scientists (lets say having published one peer-reviewed paper in the last five years) are on mastodon from the different EU countries ?
Pools only have 10 choices, so more countries are in the next post π
please boost mainly on servers with a science theme
And if I have missed any hashtags that are followed by many scientists, please add

I wanted to get a picture of a puffin with the mountains in the background instead of the sea. Without a wide-angle lens, this was the best I could pull off lol. I'm still kind of proud of it, though.

Special shoutout to a fun little account, a film reviewer who writes all their reviews on the back of a beer mat:

New release review: Melania
Good coverage from The New Yorker
"The announcement was left to the executive editor, Matt Murray, and human-relations chief Wayne Connell; the newspaperβs publisher, Will Lewis, was nowhere to be seen as the grim news was unveiled. In what Murray termed a βbroad strategic reset,β the Postβs storied sports department was shuttered βin its current formβ; several reporters will now cover sports as a βcultural and societal phenomenon.β The metro staff, already cut to about forty staffers during the past five years, has been shrunk to about twelve; the foreign desks will be reduced to approximately twelve locations from more than twenty; Peter Finn, the international editor, told me that he asked to be laid off. The books section and the flagship podcast, βPost Reports,β will end. Shortly after the meeting, staffers received individualized e-mails letting them know whether they would stay or go. Murray said the retrenched Post would βconcentrate on areas that demonstrate authority, distinctiveness, and impact,β focusing on areas such as politics and national security. This strategy, a kind of Politico-lite, would be more convincing if so many of the most talented players were not already gone."

Andrea Junker quote:
"Iβve said it before and Iβm sure Iβll say it a thousand times more: If you love freedom but donβt care if it applies to everyone, what you actually love is privilege."
According to Carl Jung, the second half of life is not a decline. It is a different psychological journey altogether. The first half is about building a place in the world. The second half is about discovering who you are without the worldβs applause.
Morning reflection: becoming an adult isnβt about getting older, but about learning when the time comes to "disengage". When the stream of thoughts, disagreements, integrity, that feeling of being right, turns into a simple "OK".
Not because you changed your mind, but because you understand that continuing to argue wonβt change it either.
And so that OK is both an ending and a beginning: the end of the discussion, and the start of putting into practice what you believe anyway.
if I offered a Zoom training on how to search and read federal court dockets, is that something people would be interested in?
I often see court decisions and memoranda (poorly) summarized in the media without a link to the original document. and I know how to pull them up, but most people don't. so. do you want to learn how?

I wrote about what I've been calling "The Everything Account"
If you're familiar with The Atmosphere, you already know how to get one, and this should hopefully help you explain it to others.
For those of you who aren't, you'll be surprised to know that you may already have one; here's how you use it: https://www.augment.ink/the-everything-account/
@ruud β¦ Thank You!
