I endeavour to push forward events in the Fediverse thanks to NGIZero/NLnet: @blog

Developing polls in WordPress ActivityPub.

I am a pianist, multi-instrumentalist, engineer and I work with Moodle for my day job.

For me, social media is not too attractive, I would be happy to follow artists and institutions via RSS. But the negative impact on society, democracy and people, has made me want to do something: I founded this instance to promote a better alternative.

@saerdnaer @benjaminbellamy

A lot of combinations could work, depending on what best fits CastodPod.

["PodcastEpisode", "Audio"]

or

["PodcastEpisode", "Article"] ...

@saerdnaer @benjaminbellamy

Mastodon for instance supports multi-typing!

github.com/mastodon/mastodon/b

So in case CastoPod would like to get rid of the Note, it probably already could, in terms of compatibility with Mastodon.

@saerdnaer @benjaminbellamy I guess there is not. I was once saw a document on GitHub. But no-one else is currently supporting ActivityPub for Podcasts, or is there something? WordPress Podcast plugins could jump in anytime.

Unfortunately the current PodcastEpisode is quite a falsy JSON-LD. I would love to see a FEP on PodcastEpisodes and a public feedback and issue board on that!

But the same question applies: Should multi-typing be an option, or should we go all in?

Multi-typing would maybe have a little advantage, e.g., if a remote application only supports `Note` it could know for sure that treating it like it does a Note would make at least sense to some extend and not confuse users.

@pitastrudl Of course, we formed another cluster of stranded FOSDEM people :)

@pitastrudl Actually we already were in Augsburg where the train waited 5 hours, because the railway from Augsburg to Ulm was locked down by the police, and at the moment they decided to go back to Munic it opened again...

I made a call for help regarding Pipewire recently. And got some retoots. Thx for that.

Sadly i have to push that issue again.

I run Open Sound Meter which comes as an AppImage.

Issue:
Somehow OSM doesn't connect to Pipewire but to the audio interface directly. So it doesn't show up in the pw patchbay.

There was a suggestion to configure pipewire-alsa. I found zero helpful information on that matter. Just the general documentation that lists a lot but tutors not so much.

Any hint appreciated.

Danke❤️

@tml I guess I know what concerns you have here. Anyway, as long I am aware of the boundaries, it may be helpful for some at some point. And in this case, I want it to be as a good tool as possible.

If you have ideas what a better poll tool within a open social web should offer, any feedback is highly welcome. We have momentum and can build it better.

RE: graz.social/@linos/11595512947

I wonder why @Mastodon has built the feature that allows to hide a polls results until it ended, but does not make use of it in it's own clients.

A question for my fellow #Fediverse advocates:

I am currently working again on ActivityPub polls for WordPress. #Mastodon has a kind of hidden feature (not accessible by most clients) to hide the poll results until the poll has ended. This only includes how much votes each option has got so far, not the total amount of people that voted already.

Should I offer an site-wide setting so that this does not apply for the poll-creator, when the "hide totals" flag is set?

@mosgaard Yes, you were posting that recently, and that wasn't making the decision making any easier for me :)

I guess additional factors for my choice were, just in case others are interested:

- Genelec seemed to be the more sustainable company
- The Genelec have super cool table stands, that are not too over-expensive (70€ each vs 190 for the Neumanns, which is crazy).
- The price difference was almost 550€ without the stands.

And I heard the same from another source: the Neumanns sound amazing. The specifications say so, too.

However, in the end, I thought to myself, I will get used to both anyway, and both are good enough for my current use case, that is being a professionally trained musician/audio engineer, but not financially relying on releasing audio either for me or for clients into to wild (at least in the near future).

And lastly I wanted to mention "Cable". A graphical GUI for managing #PipeWire and #WirePlumber. An amazing piece of software. Simple but so important! Having the basic audio settings like sample-rate or offset and restarting the system-d services at hand. Latter has sadly been needed with my old interface, because it did not get detected by WirePlumber after Stand-By. (3/3)
