@bowreality Switched to #linuxmint for those reasons a year back. Running a little vmware on the side to launch MS Office and 1 or 2 other windows specific pgms when I need them.
Here's one for those Windows user's sitting on the fence.
My laptop has Linux Mint, Gnome Desktop, KVM/QEMU, Brave, Proton Suite, Libre Office and whatever else comes with the standard install.
As you can see, this entire file system and all my apps and data use ~11% of my 250GB NVME SSD.
So, if you're low on resources or power, I suggest you give it a try before spending money on upgraded hardware.
