Successful first remote talk, but switching to plan B and a pre-recorded video from the other remote speaker at #BOSC2025:
Seun Olufemi "Connecting Data, People, and Purpose: How Open Science is Advancing #Bioinformatics in a Low-Resource region (#Nigeria)"
We're into our opening keynote now by Christine Orengo "Working together to develop, promote and protect our data resources: Lessons learnt developing CATH and TED"
Full #BOSC2025 schedule at https://www.open-bio.org/events/bosc-2025/bosc-2025-schedule/ or the #ISMBECCB2025 website.
Thank you to @biocrusoe for the touching tribute to Peter Amstutz @tetron in the #BOSC2025 opening session - a very fitting venue as much of his work was with #CommonWL, which involved many of our community, and started at the #CoFest: https://floss.social/@cwl/114655254702456294
Good Morning Liverpool! Welcome to the first day of #BOSC2025, and the first full day of #ISMBECCB2025 😀 https://www.open-bio.org/events/bosc-2025/
Reminder that the #BOSC2025 and #ISMB2025 / #ECCB2025 / #ISMBECCB2025 abstract deadline is this Wednesday!

We have moved our website https://open-bio.org/ from a hosted #WordPress instance to #Hugo running on #GitHubPages, with a new look and feel (and light/dark themes) but preserving all the content. Thank you to everyone who helped make this happen!
The latest @OpenBio newsletter is now out, also available here: https://github.com/OBF/newsletter/blob/master/newsletters/2025-02.md
There's some updates on #BOSC2025, the maximum funding amount of our event fellowship has been increased, and: We're looking for projects for the upcoming #GSoC!
For the #opensource #openscience #bioinformatics folks: The next @OpenBio newsletter will go out this afternoon (Argentina time).
Last chance to get your community updates in: https://github.com/OBF/newsletter/pull/44
Our website https://www.open-bio.org/ is back online, we think it was a effectively a #DenialOfService attack from a rogue bot site scraping - which pushed the server over the hosting's burst CPU limit threshold.
And the website is offline again, another CPU usage spike trigging a precautionary shutdown by the hosting company.
See https://obf.github.io/ in the interim which already has most of the static content, and all the pages migrated from MediaWiki. The WordPress content is next!
@OpenBio The next commit/pull request will put the #Biopython git repository’s default branch at over 16,000 commits!
#Biopython 1.85 released, supports Python 3.9 through 3.13 and PyPI. https://biopython.org/
Pre-compiled wheels available on PyPI https://pypi.org/project/biopython/1.85/ with #CondaForge to follow soon https://anaconda.org/conda-forge/biopython
Greetings! We invite you to join us for #BOSC2025, a vibrant gathering at the forefront of #OpenSource #bioinformatics and #OpenScience!
BOSC 2025 will be held July 21-22 in Liverpool, UK (and online) as part of #ISMB / #ECCB 2025 (#ISMBECCB2024).
We are seeking keynote speaker nominations: https://www.open-bio.org/2025/01/09/nominate-keynotes-bosc2025/
Our Website is back online - although we're unsure what caused the CPU usage spike which triggered the precautionary shutdown by our hosting company.
The OBF website is currently down - our hosting have notified us of the problem. We don't have a estimated time for restoration yet, in the meantime much of the content is on https://github.com/obf although not as readily explored.
