I do #Genomics work. 1 vCPU with 16GB of RAM is $0.20 an hour. I need multiple CPUs and more memory. The only option is a big mem vCPU with 64GB of RAM. $0.20 per CPU per hour.

Is this highway robbery? No of course not. There are more expensive services. It's the ecosystem development. The long-term plan is provide for a reasonable subsidy, force you to use it, then force you into a directly billable situation instead of subsidizing access.

I'm disappointed in myself because I fell for it.

I'm starting to think the #TechBros are advising our compute infrastructure. I've described our storage issues where we were pushed to use certain services to have the storage amounts and subsidies vanish. Forcing people into an ecosystem then yanking back features is how commercial services try to get you: do this for free, and we'll slowly erode what you can do until you have to pay.

Welcome to a new edition: how they're doing it for HPC.

Mathematical modelling led by @tsukushi_kamiya reveals the role of #nutrients in the stability of the vaginal #microbiota in a way that is consistent with #genomics and #metabolomics data shared by Jacques Ravel. This is one of the rare #models on this understudied #microbiome.

Genomics is the interdisciplinary field of biology focusing on the structure, function, evolution, mapping, and editing of genomes. A genome is an organism's complete set of , including all of its genes. Unlike genetics, which typically refers to the study of individual genes and their roles in inheritance, genomics aims to characterize and quantify the collective characterization of all the genes
