Sure, tons of shady stuff goes on on #Telegram – but the same is true for #Signal (it's just a less popular app). Is this arrest along the same lines as politicians wanting to ban #E2EE, or is it a proper consequence of laissez-faire moderation?

(It's also interesting that Telegram simultaneously is "the most insecure thing on earth" (because it mostly encrypts on server), _and_ hated by governments because they can't get access…)

If you need "closed" group chats, consider @zulip as an alternative. OFC it doesn't do encryption, but that's not the focus of #Zulip.

Not shure if @delta does "#E2EE group chats" but I'm certain that if one needs security, E2EE and Group Chats are somewhat exclusionary as part of #OpSec, #InfoSec & #ComSec best-practises go.

• Tho OFC one can use #PGP/MIME and thus E2EE all messages to all recipients i.e. using #Thunderbird.

As for a "secure yet convenient solution" I can recommend #XMPP+#OMEMO with @monocles / #monoclesChat and @gajim / #Gajim...

Sorry, should have read all the thread before I posted.

#Simplex, while it has some issues, seems to be finally doing a lot of things correctly. As I understand, the project recently got some VC funding, which may or may not improve things, or destroy it. Let's hope for improvements.

Anyway, the protocol ideas are there now, so it might finally be time to move away from this dogmatic "Use signal" propaganda.
