@LordCaramac @grumpygamer I don't think any of my old floppies still work (and i don't have anything which reads floppies anymore)! 😅
i mainly talk about my most current hobbies and interests (tho, I have a lot of them, and they cycle).
@LordCaramac @grumpygamer I don't think any of my old floppies still work (and i don't have anything which reads floppies anymore)! 😅
@GlitchGhost @grumpygamer i've been chasing that feeling from ALttP all these years but nothing ever really recaptured it. as far as rpgs go, nothing beats good old MUDs, well, bar the original guild wars. been playing the reforged release quite a bit lately!
@mikaellundin Loom! What a throw back. I think we'll have to do a SCUMM marathon 😁😁
Been playing #TheSecretOfMonkeyIsland with my oldest kid and we're loving it. I realize I haven't actually re-played the series since the special edition came out in 2009 (and of course, each new game upon release).
These games defined my childhood (together with #ALinktothePast and #Quake).
So here's for a new generation embracing the magic of #MonkeyIsland!
Thanks @grumpygamer! Not all heroes wear capes 😁
i'm a little jealous of the teenagers growing up today. all the fucking time in the world, and #AI that can #code all the #games and #software they could ever dream up in a fraction of the time it took us to get anything done!
i experimented with #openai codex in #vscode yesterday and i already have the core prototype of #blackthorn ready in just a matter of 5 minutes of prompting lol. i've dreamed of making this game for 30 years. maybe i can finally make it a reality? ..if only i had the time
The world right now

We didn't sell a single copy of #Catan between august and december at the #boardgame store. I proclaimed Catan finally dead!
Yet, it feels like every 3rd game leaving the shelves since the beginning of january is Catan 😑 so ...like a zombie ...it came back
What is it with Catan?
Why do people love it?
It's not even a good game! It limits you to three choices of which only one is good!
Why can't people try new things, like #FarmsRace? I mean, it's literally Catan but with nukes and nonsense!
When I was teaching #SeasOfStrife at work, we used the original rules, not the boxed rules which are wrong (the scandinavian edition even has translation issues between the already wrong rules - further complicating things).
First game, somehow, the starting player lost by playing the 0 - becoming the highest card on the table lol.
So what makes this game really shine isn't winning; you can't really control that. What makes it shine is making others lose 😁 as you CAN control that!
@TheDeckie thanks! albeit the box and i may have differing opinions.
i was told it could not be done. that one can’t sleeve #6nimmt and still get the cards back into the box. here's proving it can be done!
I had a chance to finally bring out #SeasOfStrife after having it hyped to me repeatedly for three weeks.
Let me put it this way: I don't like trick-taking games and I especially don't like basic games unless they have a hidden depth or let me be super mean.
This game falls into exactly that category. A basic trick-taking game that anyone could learn in less than a minute.
AND I fucking loved it.
This game has earned a spot in my satchel project, together with #Scout and #BangTheDiceGame !
I've been sick for two days straight but took the opportunity to work on #lumae, which will probably be called #freightline now. I haven't had time to test it of course, but the added mechanics brings the game from a chess-like abstract into the realm of modern games. which, i should point out kinda breaks my goal. I want to make timeless #boardgamedesigns using basic assets and with rules you learn in less than a minute like my game #Crowns, or something like #Chess. But maybe that's okay...
@aartaka yeah, people forgot that social media is supposed to be ...social. most "social media" nowadays is just algorithms promoting content creators good at grabbing attention to generate a profit and bypass our age old reporters license system. at least genuine reporters had to be good at their job and honest about it.
and i have been posting shit here for years into an empty void basically because my communities are still on fb lol but at least i get to use this site as a real social media!
@georgetakei whats crazy to me is that they want this. like, absolutely no one gains, not even the billionaires, and yet they made this happen. just more evidence that billionaires aren't where they are because of intelligence. it also proves that politics on the right aisle serves absolutely no value to society and probably shouldn't exist 🤷♂️
@aartaka i mean, i.e. i'm deep into aquarium fish and gamedesign of which there is virtually zero overlap. someone who wants to see fish stuff ain't going to be interested in gaming stuff. so more likely than not, i will not get readers/followers of either because most of my content is not relevant to common interests. basically my posts are a waste of time because they won't really get exposure from relevant users :P
@jandi @dangillmor i don't follow up on personalities but that reads like a smear piece taken out of context? dude says don't act like animals and basically get a bunch of narrative angled conspiracies thrown his way? or am i missing something?
@dangillmor nah man, fuck mozilla. ladybird browser engine is just around the corner. and with it, it's time for google and mozilla to take a back seat and watch what it feels like when people get what they actually want, leaving their services.
#ladybird for 2026!
i get rightfully blamed for this, but i tend to abstract games down to their basics. but, the reason for that is because i am one of those types of people who don't judge something based on how pretty it looks but rather on its inner machinations.
what makes a game tick? is it fun? is there depth?
i realize most people just don't care, but i suspect they also happen to be the kind of people who play #boardgames a few times then put it into the shelf indefinitely!
yes, #smallworld fkn sucks!
I mean, I dare you to show me a better family game! Whole family taking turn to catch 'em legendary fish 😁
Was at the local #boardgamedesign meetup last night. There were two new in faces there, who had already designed two successful games and were working on a third that looks very promising. Sort of a very mathy yathtzee tic-tac-toe hybrid with mean player interaction.
Shoutout to Gustav Skoglunds #PNP games! I've had a chance to try both at the meetup now and they were really cool! https://www.imaginaryworlds.se/print-and-play
As for my new game #Lumae, the review was, as always, "hold on! I have to think?" lol.
