I don't do word counts because they yuck my low-focus yum. I do checkpoints. My #WritingGoals for Project Mega are:
Herd A-story characters to X part of the story; bonus points if you also get the B-story character to Y part of the story. Triple bonus if you get certain marked characters away from A-story and B-story into C-story. Think of ways to weave in B-story-subplot-A and B-story-subplot-B if vibes.
I blame George R. R. Martin for this nonsense.

My co-writer, based in the US, is in charge of writing the characters that are based in the US. I'm in charge of writing the characters based in the UK.
I'm about to colour code them.
GB's flag is red, white and blue, so I can make GB blue, and... Oh.
Representing countries with one colour when they use the same damn colours in their flags.
My brain just resigned.

Some features I have with #ObsidianMD, but others, I don't.
I use G-docs for final drafts of prose, and this would replace that if the price wasn't so 😱

How do you deal with describing specific character ethnicities?
In screenwriting, it's easy.
"GRAHAM O'BRIEN, early 60s, Essex native, white."
"YASMIN KHAN, late 20s, Sheffielder, Pakistani heritage."
"RYAN SINCLAIR, 19, Sheffielder, Black."
In prose, it's almost exactly the same, but with less direct language, influenced by the prejudice or knowledge of the POV.

Which words do you overuse?
"Filler" words. Here's an example:
Pre Edit:
Sentences are supposed to contain key information. That's what they're for. More than that is fluff. I take away any word that doesn't carry the key information contained within a sentence.
Messy, right? The tone reads arrogant too.
Post Edit:
The purpose of a sentence is to carry information. When I edit, I remove "fluff" words that don't carry information.

Any, as long as it's platonic and not fake.

How intelligent is your MC? Smarter than average or not? Are they self-taught, or learned most of their knowledge in school? Are they street or book smart?
She's very intelligent for a 17/18 yo, but she struggles with maths, and as of writing, she's not great with people either.
She is very book smart, having devoured every book available to her, especially on history and mythology. She also knows the bible like the back of her hand.

You know those point-of-view guns they added in the 2005 Hitchhikers Guide film? I'd never wanted something to exist so badly in my life. More than magic wands, and I'd really wanted those to exist.
But that's what stories are. Stories, when done right, are point-of-view guns. With stories, you can show others what the world looks like behind your eyes, and why.

What sound does your antagonist hate?
Singing. Especially choral singing from a church. It's not because he's *technically* a demon; it's because he's tone-deaf.
He doesn't like anything that he doesn't have control over, especially when other people do. That puts them at an advantage over him.

- Their story becomes important to the main story
