And the completely absurd portion of this article:

"Still, the number of Covid hospitalizations aren't expected to reach the level they did last winter, when the original omicron variant, called BA.1, began to spread rapidly, said Dr. Isaac Bogoch, an infectious diseases physician at the University of Toronto.

He said a combination of population immunity — from either prior infection, vaccination or both — and a string of new variants that appear to be less virulent have made the virus less of a threat this winter."

They ask an Infectious Disease doc in Canada for a United States article. Toronto/Canada is overwhelmed with hospital admissions but they also have a higher vax and mask rate than the US. Waning immunity is much worse here in the US as many people have not been
boosted. Here in MA, hospital admissions are at the third highest as they've been at any time during the pandemic. Also, variant XBB 1.5 has taken over 40% cases in the last week which is incredibly fast and it's too early to tell what this variant will do.

With 60,000 #Covid19 #vaccine doses about to expire in #NZ, you would hope they would open the opportunity for boosters to the majority of population who have only been allowed one #booster to date, and that was usually about 9 months ago. Especially in the wake of the summer peak of cases increasing.
