Oh boy ... #stopusingAI 🤦
You see the same image twice here, however if you look carefully you'll see the first image is noticeably poorer quality.
The first image is the image I feed to the beast that is Meta. It's severely limited in resolution (about 15% of the original) and as of yesterday these no longer have hashtags or in depth descriptions.
Please, stop feeding AI. Garbage in, garbage out. Give it as little information as possible.
My high quality images can only be found public here on Mastodon. Everywhere else you find my images visible to the public they will always be hobbled in some way.
It's very easy to do - just view it in your photo viewer, screen grab it, upload the screen grab. You don't need any specialist software.

A mi con esto también me molesta/asusta/preocupa el tema de que estemos dejando que las puertas del conocimiento las controlen dos empresas, y visto que en este estudio encontraron que usar IA "simplifica tu proceso cognitivo" pues oye, aún más preocupante.
The cost of a "free" AI request:
* you unlearn how to research
* you unlearn critical thinking
* you unlearn cooperation
* your brain deteriorates
* you get partial misinformation in the best case
* propaganda in every other case
* scientists and artists don't get compensated or credited
* the server farm uses extreme amounts of energy
* autocratic regimes get rich from selling fossil fuels
* tons of atomic waste is produced
* the server farm also uses extreme amounts of water to cool the servers and cooling agent is added making the waste water useless for a long time
* droughts lead to decreased food production
* your energy bill, water bill and grocery bill increase, because prices go up
* lots of greenhouse gas is emitted for energy production
* global heating, rising sealevels, wildfires, famine, extreme weather events all lead to climate refugees
* people influenced by AI propaganda and scared of climate refugees vote for fascist autocrats
* your chatbot will deny the existence of gas chambers while your friends are being burned
* everybody loses
The benefits of "free" AI requests:
* you get to make fun of bad results as long as you still know that humans shouldn't have extra fingers growing out of their ears (which might be the new normal soon due to all the atomic waste)
There are ways of controlling the new technology—but first we have to stop mythologizing it.

Alright, it's time someone said it directly. This AI bullshit is getting out of hand. We need to start working together and saying NO.
Any time someone tries to implement AI into your daily life, refuse. Do not comply. If we all did this, companies would realise it's costing them too much to play around with this terrible technology, and it'll get put away some until it's worth having. That may be someday, but LLMs are not that day.
I went to my doctor's recently, and she handed me a sheet telling me that they were using AI to record interviews, so they could use it to transcribe the interview. I asked if I could opt out, because it didn't say I could on the sheet.
Turns out I can, opt out I mean, and I did. She made some noise about wanting to spend more time with her family, but okay, with a big sigh. And I'm thinking, "you're a *doctor*. If you want more time off, take more time off."
And I've been doing this ever since. I turn off every AI that they shove into the software I use.
Why do I do this? Because their AIs are being used to scrape data for their companies. For free. All they have to do is come up with something that will save people a few dollars, and those people will jump in and use it "for free", not knowing the price is being paid by the patients, rather than them.
Because here's the thing: if they want my data, they can fucking PAY me for it. Why the hell should they get to just steal my data from me via my doctor, and make money off it without cutting me in? It's obscene, we wouldn't put up with it anywhere else, and we shouldn't here.
As long as generative AIs are based on theft as a business model, we need to eschew them completely.
ETA: Some excellent points being made in the comments about other reasons why these current AI are not what we want. I'm not opposed to the development of AI - I'm opposed to its too-early deployment.
