The AI antagonists, once again prove that humans do not need #AI to generate #bullshit.
All that this "research" proves is that at the most generous these Professors are ignorant of how #LLM models work. Which is the most generous interpretation of the human #hallucinations they created. Because the other explanation is less generous, they engage in academic fraud.
Briefly why:
Methodology.
They upload a specific full 185 page textbook into the LLM context window (presumably with full permission of the copyright owner), then they ask SUPER SPECIFIC questions, 👉without directing the AI to reference the specific text uploaded👈.
Once again, be sceptical when humans reference a "study" showing "Bad AI". So far, every time I have seen such a study, it's the human flailing at the controls.
Including the "famous" #BBC study.

We here know that the current wave of generative AI is bullshit, but the rest of society mostly hasn't figured it out yet.
For anyone looking for a side project with the potential to become a business in the future, now is probably a really opportune time to look at what people are claiming to use "AI" for, figure out how to do the thing with human-made software and other human skills, and put it out there. When the venture backed APIs the competition rely on go under or jack their prices sky high, you'll be the one left standing, with software that lets people get the job done better with just a bit more effort.

I've been experimenting with GitHub co-pilot lately. Every now and again it manages to suggest some thing that's a good scaffolding to start with. Very rarely it suggests something that's just perfect and I can just use it as written. All the fucking time it suggests comments along the lines of "This is a bit of a hack, but it works." 🤨 Keep it up with that kind of commentary and I'll be hitting the "eject smart ass co-pilot" button. #spicyAutoComplete
