@mikebroberts excellent blog post about #aws #snapstart There are tradeoffs but in general it is a good thing. One thing I would mention too is a max lifetime of an unused snapshot of 14 days. First run after that would fail and initiate snapshot creation in the background. That means that having s3 events that call lambda fns for a tenant that has some once a month job is not safe anymore and sqs should be added in between. That means that adding snapstart is not just a simple switch.

Using checkpoint/restore mechanisms allows #Java applications to startup very fast.

The #CRaC project in #OpenJDK to achieve this, led by #Azul, is gaining momentum as it has been integrated in #AWS #SnapStart for #Lambdas and multiple frameworks like #Quarkus, #Micronaut, and #SpringBoot.

In the original post about #AWS #Lambda #SnapStart I said that there are "tricky things you need to do to make it safe and secure." Reading with fresh eyes that might be misinterpreted.

There were nuanced important problems that AWS engineers had to solve, but those don't transfer to _you_, the customer.
