📚️ Principia is a libre, multiplatform sandbox puzzle game. Following on from the successful commercial game “Apparatus” (on Android) in 2011, it was freed in 2022. Players build machines and simulate them using physical simulation. These can be mechanical devices, remote-controlled cars, or pinball machines. Players can also design Lua scripts that interact with the simulation. An Adventure game mode gives players control of a small robot that obeys their commands. Players can take part in a giant battle against enemy robots, or take control of the giant robot and wreak havoc on the world.

🕶️ An FPS view of the game (v.1.11.2.2, on my Linux PC) on board a steam train, on the electrified PARIS-BORDEAUX TGV line (sic. During this relatively quick test, I couldn't find a line that was suitable and functional for this type of train). The simulation is excellent, with the engine's limited power preventing it from climbing steep gradients, and the good sound effects also contribute to the overall atmosphere. Excellent!

It accurately simulates the behaviour of wagons, braking systems, friction, air resistance, tilting, etc. In 3D cabs, the driving experience is enhanced by forces that shake the driver's body during acceleration and braking, as well as in curves. It also offers a positional 3D sound system, train exteriors and timetables for the current journey. Realism takes precedence over user-friendliness, and the player will have to study the route and train operating manuals, not just memorise a few keystrokes.
