Two things:
1) Stagflation - stagnant economy + inflation - was one of the main reasons if not THE reason for the undoing of Gerald Ford and Jimmy Carter.
2) When I was a kid, one of my aged relatives would seem just fine when I would talk with him daily; but at other times of the day, he would have senility episodes that were a lot more than just merely concerning. To my experience today, Donald Trump seems to be in a very similar condition. Some things he has done, tried to do, or talked about are wacky even by his standards. It is my guess that a physician has told him he is dementing quickly.

So, just to make sure I get this right...
There's a senile codger who sits at home at night, alone with his grievances, no friends, a wife that detests him and refuses to be in the same room with him. He stews and stares at the TV, flipping around hoping to find people saying nice things about him.
Then, possibly triggered by whatever he sees on TV, or perhaps thermal noise in his degrading neurons, he comes up with some random, crazy thing, and he posts it to social media.
And then the US cabinet jumps up and says "Yes sir, what a great idea sir, we're on it sir".
Do I have that right?
