En otro orden de cosas, ayer se anunció un nuevo reloj Pebble, el Pebble Round 2 (PR2). Este es posiblemente el Pebble más elegante hasta la fecha (y se anuncia como tal).
Entre sus puntos más fuertes:
• Una pantalla, por supuesto, redonda, con mejor resolución y contraste que la del Pebble Time 2 (PT2)
• Unas dos semanas de batería con la pantalla siempre encendida (una gran mejora respecto al modelo original y lo que más le va a diferenciar respecto a sus competidores).
• Pantalla táctil opcional, pues se puede manejar con los "clásicos" 4 botones.
• Resistencia al agua (hasta 30 m).
• Software abierto, tanto el del reloj ("esferas" y aplicaciones; Pebble OS) como el de la aplicación para el móvil.
• Un precio más reducido (199$) que el del PT2 (225$).
Entre sus desventajas:
• No tiene altavoz, mientras que el PT2 sí.
• Tiene menor duración de batería que el PT2.
• No tiene medidor de pulsaciones, a diferencia del PT2.
• No tiene función de pago por NFC (tampoco el PT2).

#Pebble goes fully #opensource with shipping date set
The announcement follows weeks of tension between #CoreDevices and parts of the #Rebble community. By moving from 95 to 100% opensource, the company has essentially removed itself as a bottleneck. Users can now build, run, and maintain every piece of software needed to operate a Pebble watch. That includes firmware for the watch and mobile apps for Android and iOS. This puts the entire software stack into public hands.

Pebble wants to steal the work of the community behind the project that kept Pebble watches alive for almost a decade after Pebble originally abandoned them. Seemsl ike Pebble also wants to close source said work.
Pebble does not deserve any sympathy for this. First they abandon their customers, then they steal the work of the community. I hope they fail miserably.
