Benefrey on Springkell Avenue in the Pollokshields area of Glasgow. Designed by William Hunter McNab in a Franco-Scottish Gothic style, it was built in 1910, making it one of the last grand villas built in Pollokshields.

It was built for John Anderson, a director of the construction company P and W Anderson, which, amongst other important Glasgow buildings, helped build the Central Hotel, the Glasgow Herald Building and the Mitchell Library.

A fantastic set of three Thomsoneseque attic windows on Shields Road on the Southside of Glasgow. I love the shape of the space created between them, which somehow seems just as solid as the surrounding stone.

"Actor and musician Tom Urie [...] was walking past when the building collapsed just after midnight.

He said: “I was walking past and started hearing weird noises coming from the building. At first I thought people were throwing things but I soon felt a rumble.” [...] “I looked up and the building was looking really weird, and I ran across the street as it collapsed.” [...] “I turned around, and the building was gone.""

Whitehall on Springkell Avenue beside Maxwell Park on the Southside of Glasgow. Designed by Robert Duncan in a Classical style, this villa was constructed in the 1890s. I love the little round dormer window which looks like a ship's porthole. This similarity may well be intentional as its first owner was William Gray of the shipowner and chandlers MacBeth and Gray.
