Good Internet Magazine
Good Internet is a volunteer-run, not-for-profit print and digital quarterly magazine for personal website owners and those interested in using the internet as a means of self-expression, art, and recreation. The name Good Internet comes from Katie Baker's The Day the Good Internet Died, hopefully proving that headline wrong.

Blog: I imported my Instagram archive
Quite a bumpy road and it took way more time than I planned, but now I have my full Instagram archive on this blog. I do not care very much about my Facebook or Twitter history, but I’m really attached to these images, that take me back to earlier years. The content is mine now, […] …

Welcome to 2025!
15 years ago today I began posting notes on my own #indieweb site first, and only later on #socialMedia: https://tantek.com/2010/001/t1/declaring-independence-building-it
You can too.
I am once again encouraging you start the year with:
1. Getting a personal domain name
2. Posting on your own site first, then syndicating elsewhere: #POSSE
In 2025 there are even more neighborhoods with other people’s garages¹ to post into. Companies, servers, services, disappear all the time, taking all their posts and permalinks with them to graveyard 404².
This is your annual reminder to embrace #independent ownership of your online self, your creations, and their #longevity:
* Own your domain -> own your online identity
* Own your permalinks -> own your posts
Want help? Just ask: https://chat.indieweb.org/
#ownYourContent #ownYourData
Once again I am restarting a #100PostsOfIndieWeb #100Posts project for the year.
This is post 1.

I hope this account is about to become a lot more active soon. Finalizing my plan to leap from big social media to scalable/personal social community. I've got a lot to share. Stay tuned...

Self-hosting is the only way to truly own your content. Don't fall for the tricks of big corporations that claim rights to your content... even as you pay them. Take back control of your content today. #OwnYourContent #SelfHosting
I repeat for the folks in the back, why I'm putting my eggs in Obsidian (or projects with that mindset) even with the downside compared to Notion/Anytype/etc :
“Why a file format?
- Files enable longevity. Databases get turned off. Files live forever.
- Files enable easy migration between tools, fighting vendor lock-in.”
Nice! Okay. Ah …
Adding to my TODO list: have a look at XSLT again. Seems obsolete? I'd say absolutely not. Especially for running your own website which is getting more and more a thing 💜 #ownYourContent
For example, look at the tetralogical feed. The XML atom feed is nicely transformed into a little site: https://tetralogical.com/feed.xml
Apart from this, I'd recommend that feed super much when you want to learn more about #a11y
#ownyoursite #ownyourcontent

What would the users of both platforms do if Medium and Substack suddenly closed, or they did something super-shady with all of the user data and content that they both have? I wonder this most times I see either domain linked here now.
Not everyone is a web developer, I get that, but self-hosting doesn’t have to involve too much fucking around with code. Worth it to own your content for life, surely?
Example with #SvelteKit:

This whole resurgence of the #personalWebsite and #ownYourContent made me feel like I kind of missed the golden age of getting your content seen and read on quality alone instead of resorting to gaming the system with clickbait and excessive SEO while working less on what you want to and more on what fits the users on platforms. 😔
Did we kind of become dependent on algorithms and recommended pages to sift through all the heartless junk out there? 🤔
Happy to be a guest on the Torque Social Hour tonight with fellow guest @davidbisset and host @docpop.
We're going to be talking about new tools and strategies to keep your WordPress site connected to the social networking sites. We'll talk about a tool that helps you archive your tweets on your own site, fediverse integration, and more.

In last two weeks I deleted my accounts from Clubhouse, Vero, Flickr, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Medium. I moved to Mastodon and Pixelfed. Also I created self hosted instance of writefreely (writefreely.social) and moved there all articles from Medium. #ownyourcontent
