I also digitized another mixtape over lunch. Not too much drops / loss of quality despite the age, thanks to the fact that I had made the recording on a metal tape (Scotch XSM IV - they were pretty expensive back then compared to the Maxell and BASF type II I also used and quite a bit more than the Supertape (Realistic).

Lol, this mix I had done is definitely Belgian new beat, but I threw in TC Matic in there with "oh la la la" 🤣 I had some sense of humor. Also used electrica salsa by OFF (Sven vath). That's the second mix I found where I used that track. The other I already digitised but this latest is still on #tape

I need some #FediHelp but this seems quite obscure at least to my fuddled brain.

When I was a young man either in the very late 80's or early 90's there was a youth TV show that did a short section on New Beat/Belgian House.

I am convinced it featured an interview with a man purporting to be a producer. He spoke in French Belgian with an interesting accent (perhaps his voice was slightly treated). He was absurd, articulate and slightly pompous.

He was clad as a Mummy, with dark glasses and a pipe. As I recall the Mummy bandages were dark rather than white. I think there were one or two women behind him giggling at intervals.

So maybe I am conflating the two. But I am certain the man was sat in his studio talking about Belgium, dance music and other enlightening topics.

I don't think it was SnubTV as I seem to recall most of those, could have been Network Seven or similar.

DiscogsDienstag: A Split Second – Firewalker

Heute stelle ich eines meiner persönlichen „One-Hit-Wonder“ vor, von der Band habe ich nämlich nur eine einzige Maxi-CD. Es handelt sich um die belgische Band A Split Second mit ihrem Song „Firewalker“ aus dem Jahre 1990. Gegründet wurde die Band 1986 von Mark Ickx (Gesang und Gitarre) und Peter Boone (Keybords). Aufgrund ihrer Herkunft und Musik wurden sie bald in die EBM-Schublade gesteckt, die Gitarre gibt ihnen allerdings eine Rock-Note. So konnten sie sich in EBM-Kreisen nie richtig etablieren und auch sonst blieb ihnen der kommerzielle Erfolg vergönnt. Nur einige wenige Stücke haben es zu Underground-Club-Hits geschafft, so auch „Firewalker“.

„Firewalker“ stammt von ihrem Album „Kiss Of Fury“. Das Lied enthält einen archaischen, repetitiven Elektro-Beat und eine relativ simple Keyboard-Melodie. Der Gesang klingt entfernt und der Text beteht hauptsächlich aus einfachen Sätzen, die sich häufig wiederholen. „Firewalker“ ist somit eher ein klassisches Tanzstück, bei dem die Lyrics eine untergeordnete Rolle spielen. Dafür ist es jedoch sehr gut geeignet.

Auf der Maxi-CD sind auch noch die Songs „Backlash“ und „Fire“, die ebenfalls vom Album „Kiss Of Fury“ stammen.
