The ingredients list on the back of the package, listing the following:
Sugar, glucose, butter (sweet cream, natural flavoring, milk), mol- sos, whole wheat flour, sea sal , anise oil, artificial coloring. Contains milk and wheat. Manufac- tured in a facility that also processes peanuts, tree nuts, wheat, eggs, soy, and dairy products.

But no actual licorice!!1!!1

I just finished making a tray of salmiakki (salmiak). In retrospect I should have started this project on a much less humid day. The salmiakki has to dry for 24 hours but it will likely take longer than that to slightly harden. Lots of work too, but it will hopefully be worth it. #salmiakki #liquorice #licorice

This batch is five pellets, 6 tablespoons of sugar, and a big pinch of salt, cooked to 300F, cooled and rolled into a snake, chopped up and dusted with powdered sugar. Important: grind the pellets and sugar together first otherwise the licorice clumps up and gets weird.

Still softer than ideal, so next time I’ll try for 303-305. In theory 309 is caramelization though so there’s..not a lot of wiggle room before things start burning.

Top-down scene from candy making. A shiny irregular log of brown-black is on an oiled silpat. A squarish wodge has been chopped off with a bench scraper. Nearby, a bowl with a little powdered sugar in the bottom, along with a dozen already-coated lozenges, and one yet to be shaken with its brothers. The candy is still soft enough to press in the sharp corners left by cutting before it goes in the bowl. In an ideal world, instead of smooshing off a pointy pillow of candy with steady pressure from the bench scraper, I’d position the bench scraper, then hit it sharply and a piece would break off. Alas. But these work.

Finished lozenges, irregular round shapes with a light coating of starch left over from the powdered sugar after shaking off the excess. They’re in a wee 4oz canning jar and destined for my work desk.

An #Australian Darrell Lea (Quadrant Private Equity) bag of Liquorice Allsorts versus a #British Maynards Bassetts (Mondelez International) bag of Liquorice Allsorts (a few of these had already been eaten lol, didn't survive a car trip home.)

The British version certainly has more sorts of allsorts.

But IMO the more limited sorts of the Darrell Lea version are higher quality in and of themselves. They're brighter, perkier, buff, well honed sorts.

Like a lot of British things, the Maynards Bassetts ones look like they've been sat on by Jabba the Hutt. They're kinda flaccid, warped, dull sorts. There is probably a relevant British standard for this special feature of British food, BSI-5318008 or something.

There's probably some whole sorta allsort metaphor to be had here. But I'm too busy having allsorts.

the ones in the left bowl look generally fatter and fuller, the ones in the right bowl kind of look like they've been sat on by Jabba the Hutt

on the right is a larger range of slightly more squashed looking allsorts, these consist of a round one covered in tiny blue hundreds and thousands, a tubular one with a white candy center, a flower shaped short tubular plain liquorice, two three candy layer ones with a yellow center in one and all white on the other, three that are two layers of candy around one layer of licorice with one being pink one being brown and one being orange, a strange little licorice figurine with a hat on, a round pink candy with a round licorice centre, and a four-square square ended allsort with two white squares opposite two liquorice squares
