Those https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multifunction_Printer offer awesome features, reliability, stability, proper document loader, A3 size scanning and printing, color, ... and are very easy to maintain with astonishing cheap supply. A fresh load of toner lasts for 50.000 pages or so. Basically endlessly for a typical household.
Make sure to disconnect it from power supply when not needed as it is consuming too much IMO. I do it via Shelly Plug S + HomeAssistant integration.

Wow, thanks for the advice on the laser printers, folks! I've used Epson forever but for color inkjet printers. I knew HP was a bit shady and had no experience with Canon. I'd figured Brother would be a backbencher and had no idea they'd be so highly recommended! I can't remember when I've had that much unanimity on a tech question. XD
Browsing their site I'm kinda looking at the HLL6210DW. $330, 50ppm, 1200dpi, duplex printing, wifi. A multipurpose feed tray and a 520-sheet paper tray, AND I can buy a second paper tray later if I need it. Hmm hmm hmm. 🤔❤️ #tech #printer #laserprinter

Hey, what inexpensive laser printer would folks recommend? I'm done with inkjet.
Don't need color. Don't really need the scanner either, usually scanning something with my phone is enough.
If I get into more photo scanning (which I might eventually) I'll do a separate scanner, not a multifunction.
I'm in the US, I'd prefer not to buy from Amazon (but not a dealbreaker).

A question has arisen at work. I’m working on a bespoke app (react) that generates QR codes for conference attendee name labels. The QR encodes conference programme URL and attendees ID (as a parameter) in a single URL. We print the labels on Avery label sheets using a laser printer. In a test run *most* of the labels scan okay, but some don’t. I’m thinking our URL is to too long, so I’m looking at a URL short link for the conference programme to reduce the size of the overall URL, and some other tweaks.
Anyone have experience printing QR labels onto Avery-type label sheets? In particular how many characters can you encode into a given size QR, before the fidelity/error correction on an off-the-shelf laser printer label isn’t good enough?
Personally, I'll go #LaserPrinter (or rather #LEDprinter if we're pendantic about it.) once my old Inkjet dies and refuses to run.
My venerable DCP8065DN has been so dependable that it took me literal days to remember, yes, it has consumable parts and that might be why the prints look weird.
I now vaguely recall replacing the toner 12 years ago.
The onboard diagnostic estimates that the drum has 64% left.
This printer might outlive me.
Never change, Brother.
