Congratulations to everyone who reached the finish line of #PointToPinnacle on top of #kunanyi / #MountWellington in #Hobart #Tasmania #Australia today. And spare a thought for young George Radford who didn’t achieve that feat in 1903. #silentSunday #photoOfTheDay #iPhoneOnly

On Sunday we left #Nipaluna/Hobart after stopping at Salamanca to get some pics of a snow-covered #Kunanyi, driving down through the Huon Valley.

Historic Salamanca Place, a street lined with old stone 3 to 4 story buildings, and the snow-capped mountain of Kunanyi in the background. A clear blue sky is above. The foreground has parked cars and outdoor dining areas.Another angle of the same view, this one cropping out the cars but revealing more of the snow capped Kunanyi and the ridgeline to its east. The shadows of leafless trees are on the buildings, various natural stone or pale yellow/cream. In colour. The Huon River, looking upstream from a boat ramp. The sun is blocked by high eucalypts on the left, and the concrete surface of the platform before the ramp has puddles. The water mirrors the clear blue sky, but is wind swept by a wind coming from the direction being faced. The bonnet and side mirror of a silver SUV is in the foreground on the left.
It was a little blustery overnight in Hobart. It still is, but the rain and snow has stopped and the mountain looks good this morning!

Snagged a few nice pics in Opossum Bay of #Kunanyi still with snow, despite it being cloudy the sun managed to make a scene.

Kunanyi (Mt Wellington) seen from across the Derwent, with a blanket of grey clouds behind it, some very low behind it. The setting sun behind it has backlit some of the clouds. The mountain has snow on the higher portions. The far side of the river has the cliffs between Kingston and Taroona, with some houses from the latter visible.A closer view of Kunanyi, with only the far side of the Derwent in the image. The setting sun has thrown dramatic yellows and oranges into the clouds, very bright along the mountain’s ridge line. The snow is more easily visible, with rocky outcrops the only part not under snow. The same image of the dramatic yellows of the sun behind the grey clods over Kunanyi, but zoomed out a bit. The grey clouds over the water feel like they have motion compared to the blanket of grey cloud higher up. The water mirrors the greys or yellows from the skies above Kunanyi, but stretching all the way to the sandy shore directly in front of me

Showers over Hobart.

Late January 2025.

A moody sky fills most of the frame in the late afternoon. The sun beams down through a distant cloud gap, as rain falls in front of a small mountain, the rain lit in the beam. Hills lie in semi silhouette along the horizon, a large bay in the foreground reflecting the steel blue sky.

IN TASMANIA…
I'm not on the kunanyi-Mt Wellington summit, but the city council's summitcam is, where this morning at 07.45 it is -1°C at 1271m with a light wind from the NNE at 1kph. A fine and calm morning.

The rising sun shines off the waters of the Derwent and if you look closely you can see the Tasman Bridge in the glow. A patch of fair weather cumulus drifts lazily past the summit through which you see the Eastern Shore and, to the right of the picture, South Arm peninsula, beyond which lie the waters of Storm Bay. The town of Kingston nestles on the Derwent shore at the right extremity of the frame.

In the other photo, the warming glow of the rising sun shines on the cold dolerite boulders of the summit.

There's a little snow about up there this morning. Don't you wich you were up here?

I’ve seen this #view of our #beautiful #mountain#kunanyi / #MountWellington – so often in the past three days (although it hasn’t always included #blue #sky) that it feels like a #home away from #home. A #huge #thankYou to everyone involved with #kunanyiMountainRun for making #kMR2025 possible. #Hobart #Tasmania #Australia #photoOfTheDay #iPhoneOnly

…from our Summer visit to #Lutruwita (Tasmania), atop #Kunanyi (Mt Wellington) at sunset. #LiveLongAndProsper #StarTrek

My shadow cast onto large boulders with small brackish plants. As this is sunset, my shadow is stretch across the rocks. I am giving the Vulcan hand gesture, with thumb out and middle two fingers parted. The whole scene is in a warm orange glow of sunset.
