“Trump Activities” on VoA Shortwave

VoA Mandarin is back on shortwave, reports kbysradio, a Chinese electronic-media blog, but only from Mondays through Fridays, from 22:00 to 22:30 UTC (that’s in the morning local time in China), on 7500 kHz (Philippines) and on 7560 kHz (Kuwait).

For Chinese listeners, this would mean that the programs run from Tuesday mornings to Saturday mornings (local time), which is, probably accidentally, sort of user-friendly, as Saturday provides more time for listening than the rest of the days on air.

If the transmissions are worth to be listened to is another question; the programs contain three identical 10-minutes news segments, one after another, five minutes of which, according to kbysradio, are focused on "Trump activities" respectively.

All the same, China’s jammers reacted by about 22:20 on January 19, the first night of resumed transmissions. By then, the fields of presidential activities (Davos, Iran, Greenland) had been reported two times without being affected. Only 7500 kHz was then jammed, while 7560 kHz remained undisturbed. If the (indeed disproportionate) focus on Trump was accidental, remains to be seen. Another question is if this focus hasn’t become rather typical for U.S. media in general. Whenever Trump farts, the media will be "breaking news"

That said, the way VoA Mandarin gets the classical media punditry on presidential statements does look unusual, if you want to think of VoA as an independent broadcaster:

Iranian Bubble Jammer has appeared on 7500.0927 kHz AM at around 1447z. Both signals are running neck-on-neck, but the bubbling is pretty faint... Modulation issues, like on IRIB's official #shortwave broadcasts? (15135 kHz was listenable sometimes, and dead air-ish at other times) #jamming #Iran

Radio Farda is on 7500 kHz now too, not sure which transmitter is used though. Unjammer so far, although yesterday on Twente WebSDR chat, users have been reporting Farda and #jamming running long hours - both gone by 2130z my check. #shortwave #Iran

BTW there's also a crackly carrier on 1547.01, which upon a zoom in looks like two tones synchronously wavering away & back in chaotic order... must be Iranian #jamming. No modulation to it, so no Bubble Jammer, which targeted regular Radio Farda relay on 1548 pre-Trump/Lake #USAGM massacre
