if only we learn
to use our souls
instead of our eyes.

Everything is transitory.
The senses deceive,
words collapse
like an uneven
butterfly’s flight,

so let us treasure
what we feel.

Let us not shiver
in the cold,
frightened
by the thought
of imminent joy,
by the sound
of an unanswered chord.
