Element 1 to supply methanol-to-hydrogen power systems for Taiwan data centre

Aurosi Precision (Aurosi) has commissioned Element 1 (e1) to support an off-grid data centre project in Taiwan.

Under a fresh memorandum of understanding (MOU), the Oregon-based clean energy systems firm will provide power generators, including hydrogen-fuelled models, for the project scheduled to begin in June 2026.

Taiwan-based Aurosi, a subsidiary of Seetel New Energy, plans to use e1’s containerised power generators and hydrogen generators to supply up to 2MW of methanol-based PEM fuel cell power as part of a 5MW off-grid power facility.

A key barrier in protonic ceramics may be fading, and hydrogen tech could benefit

A newly developed ceramic material shows record-high proton conductivity at intermediate temperatures while remaining chemically stable, report researchers from Japan. Efficient hydrogen-to-electricity conversion is critical for hydrogen-based clean energy technologies, but few materials combine chemical stability with efficient proton conductivity. Thanks to an innovative donor co-doping strategy, the proposed ceramic material features increased proton concentration and mobility, realizing exceptional conductivity and stability under CO2, O2, and H2 environments.

Stabilized iron catalyst could replace platinum in hydrogen fuel cells

Japan and California have embraced hydrogen fuel-cell technologies, a form of renewable energy that can be used in vehicles and for supplying clean energy to manufacturing sectors. But the technology remains expensive due to its reliance on precious metals such as platinum. Engineers at Washington University in St. Louis are working on this challenge, finding ways to stabilize ubiquitous iron components for use in fuel cells to replace the expensive platinum metals, which would make hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles more affordable.

Swiss startup tests ammonia-based power in Detroit

How it works: Neology is developing a system that converts liquid ammonia into hydrogen and then into electricity using a fuel cell, producing water as the primary byproduct.

The process involves an “ammonia cracker,” a device that splits ammonia into hydrogen and nitrogen. The hydrogen is then fed into a fuel cell to generate electricity, while nitrogen, a harmless component of air, is released.
