One of the huge advantages of Uber is that if you want to get to Durban from Alberton, and you can find a driver who's willing to do it, and you can afford the fare, you should be able to do it.

Okay, that's a bit of an extreme in example, but something like Joburg to Pretoria is not. Using minibus taxis, you'd have to get on and off multiple times to make that trip because the drivers have to stick to their routes. If you use Uber, you can go direct.
