Throwback Thursday
Since our last project in Finland has now been completed, I will be sharing images from past events that took place as part of our project series PRESERVED at irregular intervals from now on.
Today is about an intervention we presented while being Artists in Residence in the city of Monheim am Rhein (Germany). PRESERVED // Schwemmland / Monheim am Rhein was realized in 2021 and explored how the land on which the city of Monheim was founded had developed over centuries of interaction with human activity. It investigated which plants grew and have been cultivated, which species have shaped the cultural identity of the region, and what traces of them could still be found today. The focus lied on creating a bridge between the past and present.
We visited Monheim in spring, summer and autumn. In our „harvest“ chapter we presented an intervention to honour the Rhenish German coldblood, a horse which has played an elementary role in the development of the Rhineland region. The Reuter family which still breeds Rhenish German horses at Haus Bürgel provided us with Eberhard, a back then 11-year old chestnut. We took a ride with him in the "Berliner Viertel", the former "Neue Heimat", right through the pedestrian zone. We recalled that until recently the area was used for agriculture.
The project was realized within the frame of Kunst-Camp at Kunstwerkstatt Turmstrasse in Monheim am Rhein.

Weil ich auch auf den #Hoax hereingefallen bin, dass #Musk #Tesla gegründet hätte, hier die Richtigstellung:
"Gegründet wurde das Unternehmen im Jahr 2003 von Martin #Eberhard und Marc #Tarpenning die 2008 ausschieden."
Musk war anfangs lediglich einer der Geldgeber und Aufsichtsratsvorsitzender.
Nach Darstellung Eberhards war das "Ausscheiden" nicht freiwillig und wurde von Musk vorangetrieben - zeitgleich mit dem Erscheinen des #TeslaRoadster.

@oliverherold Ja, habe mich deswegen auch verschiedentlich kritisch mit #Luther auseinandergesetzt. Was jedoch bei Graf #Eberhard zum #Antijudaismus dazukommt, ist eben die #Vertreibung aller Jüdinnen und Juden aus seinem Reich! Es ist m.E. eben doch ein enormer Unterschied zwischen der Bewertung von Haltungen & religiösen Vertreibungen! I always wondered what became of the original CEO of Tesla. I *think* I first learned about him in the documentary "Who Killed The Electric Car?". It is a bit old, but still worth watching. That documentary embarrassed the CEO of General Motors into creating the hybrid car the Chevy Volt.
@starkmiriam #Musk ended up mortgaging everything he had to save the company that #Eberhard nearly ran into the ground. And thankfully, it worked (mainly due to an investment by #Daimler to build an electric Smart car - if it had come a week later, paychecks would have bounced).
#ElonMusk kept resisting becoming the CEO because he was busy with #SpaceX; after the company's third CEO left, he finally accepted (becoming the fourth) it in late 2008.

@terihannigan @dominicvfx Also always left out of this story: #Eberhard was independently wealthy. He had just sold off his company NuvoMedia to Gemstar for $187M. Yet he put very little of his own money into the company; it was #Musk who risked everything he owned to save it, having to clean up Eberhard's mess.
Literally, Eberhard was telling the board that the cars were going to cost a little over half what his actual numbers said they were going to cost.
@terihannigan @dominicvfx Tesla did not "come from the work of #Eberhard and #Tarpenning". When #Musk and Eberhard/Tarpenning joined forces, (A) Musk was already working on exactly the same project, even with the same ACP powertrain (only on a Noble chassis), and (B) Tesla was a shell company with no tech of its own and not even the legal rights to its own name. And they did not "step down"; Eberhard was fired by the board (even his own appointee) for stringing them along on a pack of lies.
