I've been busy combing the mohair fleece I dyed.
My hands are hurting!

Well damn!
Ok, ok.
The sock yarn I dyed for my s-father's socks... the colorway looks REAL good! 👀 Its like a variegated deep dark forest green. Like, a lush forest where the canopy is so thick and dark that only an occasional peek of light can be seen.
My mother's yarn is a saturated tonal turquoise, as I figured. I wanna see if any of the royal blue actually bound to the yarn.
Will have pics when I get further into the socks.
I want to wash more wool fleece. But I doubt that will happen soon.
I had to wash so much turquoise dye out of the sock yarn. Best of all, I was using vinegar instead of my citric acid bc apparently this is the time of year that I lose everything! 😃 It just disappears from this dimension of space apparently!
If I put down my stylus it's gone. My penci? its gone. Scissors? Gone. Crochet hook? Pliers? Paintbrush? Phone? GONE!
My adhd has been bad.
I hate getting interrupted while i'm concentrating. Dyeing yarn takes concentration. I wanted the colorway to look like a gradient I use a fair amount in my paintings. I love eet: dark cold blue, mixed into turquoise, mixed into a soft aqua.
The sock yarn wouldn't even take the royal blue dye because the fiber soaked up all the dye. I also had to rush.
Some blue dye doesn't exhaust in the dye bath for ages. I didnt have ages, my s_father wanted to use the kitchen.
So yesterday was a flurry of dyeing yarn and washing yarn. Handspun and Hawthorne DK bare.
I'm trying to make socks for Christmas gifts. But also, dyeing roving.
I was dip dyeing the sock yarn and got distracted by people coming over and made mistake by putting SO much turquoise dye in the pot that the dye wouldn't exhaust. I have a huge ass container of the excess turquoise dye. 😑

When I started my experiments in dyeing with Procion MX, I didn’t realise there was a pure purple available (Violet MX-G, aka Violet 14). It’s a pretty decent purple on its own, but also combines very nicely with cobalt blue in low-water immersion.
Aside for non-dyers: the pure dyes are those whose colour comes from a single molecule, so they won’t split into different colours like the dyes that are made by mixing different pure dyes. Sometimes you want this (e.g. it makes it easier to get a flat colour with no variation), sometimes you don’t (split colours look nice).
So the past few days, I've taken to wearing a blanket around my shoulders to be a bit warmer. It's a old army cream-coloured wool one, and I've just found a penannular brooch to pin it with instead of relying on a bulldog clip.
So now I'm wondering about refining the thing into an actual woollen cloak. Does anyone within boost range know about dying, making-fast, and/or waterproofing wool? Quantities for a 64x80in wool sheet?

I managed to finish the yellow/orange pair of socks and started another pair, but didn't manage to finish it during #socktober. The yarn for this pair was dyed by my children with food colouring.

The many uses of Broomcorn (Sorghum): "..In Nigeria, the pulverized red leaf-sheaths of sorghum have been used to dye leather, while in Algeria, sorghum has been used to dye wool. In India, the panicle stalks are used as bristles for brooms."

Let's try tie-dying this sheet with cochineal. Will attempt a mutli-day dye process on this and see how much we can color we can get into the sheet. (Soaked already in tannins dried, treated with alum mordant, dried, and then random segments of fabric rubber banded together). #dyeing #cochineal
