There's a lot to unpack here, including how we scientists think that we are smart but end up working on end-of-pipe-solutions that help temporarily to stabilize unsustainable systems.
This is a perfect example how academic knowledge does not lead to an understanding (or motivation) to address root causes.
Naturally, the problem of this nutrient crisis is that in industrial farming systems the amount of animals is not anymore related to the available land. And this is because of policy decisions to commodify agriculture in an neoliberal industrual system.
Compare it with the thousands of scientists, NGOs and foundations that deploy there energy in hyperexpensive investigations for cancer cures, but only an infimal fraction of this is inverted in the field of prevention.
Or the promotion of high-tech carbon-capture bullshit instead of degrowth.
