Update on Bayside Council's proposal to duplicate the Bay Trail. Council decided to progress the project for Section 2 of the trail, which is the narrowest section, between Dendy Pavilion and Green Point. This is the section which requires a boardwalk.

However funding is still not allocated. "the estimate for Section 2 alone is circa $13million. We will seek assistance from the State and Federal Governments for contributions, but there is also a need to consider how this project can be funded should those attempts not be successful either in full or in part. The councillors have referred the Bay Trail funding shortfall to their considerations for the 2026-27 budget, which is currently being developed, and will be presented in draft form at the Council meeting in April."

Along the edge of Humboldt Bay. A lot of the link is between the highway and this hardened, straight edge with occasional peninsulas. Once the tide went out, there was random old wood from fences an roadways.

A line of big rocks extends off to the right. On the high, right side, there's browning grass. On the low left, there's sand and pebbles to the water line of the bay. At the water line, a series of regularly spaced posts stick up. Past the water line, there's puddles and high spots in the mud. A little way along this straight water line, a small peninsula covered in more formerly green growth juts out into the mud flats. In the distance, the bay curves around and is backed by hills and then mountains.

The trail passes around the dilapidated buildings of an old mill site that was recently sold. (At least it had a "for sale" sign that is now gone.)

Some buildings in white and rust sit shoulder to shoulder with a round silo jutting upward at the near end.

The highway crossing the Eureka Slough.

A water channel with water curves through the foreground from left to right, bulging toward the viewer in the middle. Much of the high land is grass-like and yellow. Some bushes are finding a way. In the distance, the main channel of the slough is crossed by a pair of bridges. All under a sky mostly covered in thin, puffy clouds that the blue shows through.

Eureka Slough. Those tiny dots in the mud are shore birds feeding.

Looking out on a bit of water foreshortened by distance with a channel on the left and another, smaller, on the right and a mud flat with small channels in the middle. Along the right side, a bit of slightly higher flat land is visible topped with yellow grass-like growth. In the middle of the right channel is a wooden remnant of something standing erect. In the distance, the water opens to encompass everything seen as it becomes Humboldt Bay.
