モバイルバッテリーの機内持ち込み制限強化
モバイルバッテリーが原因と推測される火災のニュースが時折話題となっているかと思いますが、それを受けてモバイルバッテリーの飛行機への持ち込み制限の強化が検討されていると報じられています。これについてはモバイルバッテリー販売大手で私も愛用しているAnkerのブログメディアAnker Magazineでも詳しく解説されています。
現在は、昨年私も「モバイルバッテリーの飛行機内での取り扱い」という記事に書いた通り、預入手荷物やオーバーヘッドビンに入れてはいけないということと、他の機器の充電やモバイルバッテリー自体の充電は常に状態が確認できる状態で行うことが決められていましたが、小容量のものの持ち込み個数についての制限は定められていませんでした。しかし、今回検討中の制限強化案では、充電が一切禁止されるということと、持ち込みは容量に関わらず1人2個までに制限される見込みとのことです。
これは国連の専門機関「国際民間航空機関」(ICAO)で検討中の案に合わせて、国土交通省も日本の規制を改定しようとしているものとのことです。すでに台湾や韓国の航空会社では充電が禁止されていますし、おもに粗悪品によると思われる発煙・発火が続いている現状もあるので、この流れは仕方のないものかと思うのですが、特に長時間のフライトとなる路線では他の充電手段もしっかり整備してもらいたいものだと思います。充電用のコンセントが用意されていることは多くなっていますが、プラグが緩くて抜けやすかったり、接触が悪くて通電されなかったり、実際には使えないというケースが多いように感じます。私の感覚では半分も満足に使えないような気がするのですが、それは私が格安のフライトを利用することが多いからでしょうか。
私も最近は長距離路線に乗ることがすっかりなくなっているのであまり関係ないのですが、機内の時間つぶしにはシートバックのスクリーンよりも、自分で持ち込んだタブレットやスマートフォンを使うことが多くなっているのではないかと思うので、充電手段の確保は機内の快適性に大きな影響を与えるはずです。機内のエンターテイメントを充実させるよりも、衛星インターネットと電源の提供のほうが低コストで済むと思うので、そういう方向にシフトしていく会社もありそうですね。まあそれよりも、現在のリチウムイオン電池よりも低コストで安全なバッテリーが開発されることの方が嬉しいかもしれませんが。

So far, I haven't read nothing but skepticism about the extraordinary promises of #DonutLab and their new #solidstate #battery.

If the main purpose of this billion-dollar sport is to frustrate the drivers by forcing them to solve multi-constraint optimisation problems at full throttle, then let us make them solve a Rubik's cube with one hand and crack a walnut with the other, while negotiating Eau Rouge.

In 3 days we get test results from VTT (state-owned non-profit research center) conducted on this mysterious Donut Lab battery apparently. Let's see!

Servicing "service-free" (valve regulated) lead-acid batteries.
Crack open the plastic cover to reveal the "valves" which usually are silicone rubber caps. Pop them off, check water* level, top up and inspect the plates if you can see them.
Then charge with maximum voltage (15.0V in this case).
The cover is part of it, so when charging you need to glue, clamp or tape it back on so the valves can do their job.
Optionally, use a desulphator to recover sulphated plates.
This small UPS battery recovered most of its 7 Ah back from almost nothing.
