It happened in a particularly uninspiring office break-room. Phil had been lurking near the overflowing lost-and-found box, a veritable graveyard of forgotten office supplies. Amidst the tangled cables and lone, mismatched socks, he spotted it. Not a grand, ornate writing instrument, but a simple, slightly chewed blue ballpoint, the kind that always seemed to be floating around but never actually belonged to anyone. It was unremarkable in every way, except for one crucial detail. Phil’s internal tally clicked. One million.

The pressure warnings continued to flash erratically, occasionally spiking, then immediately dropping as the silent, blue behemoth adjusted the submarine's position with an almost casual precision. Each averted collision, each sudden, gentle redirection away from destruction, was met with Ledger's confident assertions of his rival's cunning. He saw every unnatural correction, every calculated shift that spared us, as evidence of an elaborate, simulated catastrophe designed to break his resolve.

Doing a little twist on this. One of my favourite books, but I've always read the translation (I kind of own 4 different copies), so I actually want to read this copy I have of the original language. #TBRuary #BookSky #ReadingCommunity #WriteSky #WritingCommunity

Beneath the headline was a grainy photo. It was me. Not quite, but almost. The jawline was mine, the faint scar above the left brow, the shape of the mouth. The man in the picture looked younger, fuller, and his eyes held a confident spark that mine now lacked. But the resemblance was terrifyingly close. I looked from the photo to my reflection in the dark glass of a nearby bus shelter. Was this who I was? Or was this just a doppelganger?

Ria is irrevocably changed. Her academic pursuits now have a cosmic dimension. She's no longer just a scholar; she's a guardian of ancint truths. Her perspective on history, humanity, and her own purpose is profoundly shifted.

The fluorescent lights of the city morgue hummed, a sound that slowly drilled into the space behind my eyes. It was a dying, electrical whine, a frequency that seemed to resonate with my eye teeth. It was the only sound in the tiled room, other than the wet, tearing noise of my own feeding.
